I was lucky enough to see the Paul B.B.B. during their "East-West" album era. Incredible.

markr:

Would've loved to have seen them then...

At Café Au Go Go in the Village, so you were right up there with them in that skinny club. (I was a young teen with a hep jazz dad.)

TDK,You were one luck pup. That album is one of my all time faves from the era when I was in bed right after The Flintstones.

TDK60:

F.T. Yes I was lucky. "East-West" had great blues *and* also one of the very first psychedelic-Eastern jams (*before* the San Fran rock crowd). I remember well the electricity that night.

Stopping by to say hi!

The world lost a great when "Owl" Wilson left. Wish he hadn't so soon..

markr:

Mike Bloomfield said the inspiration for "East-West" came to him during an acid trip while listening to Ravi Shankar, and he imagined a tune that could combine the raga sound of Indian music with blues-rock sounds.

Thanks for stopping by, Kim!

Hi, blues lovers. Saying hi from Argentina

However, I did see Canned Heat and John Lee Hooker at The Fox in Veniice with a salad oil light show show behind them. After it was over I went into the mens room which had vomit spattered all over the walls, ceiling and floor...kinda like the light show.

Legend has it that Alan had a total aversion to soap and water.

TDK60:

It's possible Sandy Bull mighta been a bit (1 yr?) ahead of "East West" with his folk-raga-jazz-rock mix. Peter Walker too. Either way, all those artists were ahead of the curve.

My pleasure, Steve. I've been looking forward to this one for weeks. You're right Lothian, and that was one of his first albums, too!

Was just in a rekkid store yesterday and an older couple nearby said loudly "There's no Johnny Winter albums!" A minute later they found some. // Hats off to Otis Rush.

Just checking--used to know a cat in Ann Arbor who used to (still does) host a blues show every Saturday afternoon I think it's called Yazoo City Calling. It's ALMOST as good as Matt Fiveash's show!

One more bragging moment: I saw Howlin' Wolf opening for Alice Cooper. When Chester introduced this song he said, in that voice: "Spoonful full...I know alots of you knows alots about that...heh ,heh."The band was wearing suits. I had never seen musician who wore suits!
