Hiya,David and Ruth!
Howdy, people of Ridgewood!

Hello geez, Sem and steveo. That old giant synth is partly made of military surplus bits. Great story.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm
david w:

We'll hear the Mark II later, but first this faithful homage to the musique concrete era.

Good afternoon David, Ruth and all

Good evening to you, Fred. Long journey into noise, this one.

TOSHIO KAJIWARA, my mentor, friend, whom I owe everything to (him and dj Olive).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm

ngh! I've had bad luck trying to communicate with him. Some little bits on FB, but I have no good contact. If you have, hit me up in private.

greetings David and Ridgies

...of course my craptop crashed right as dude was explaining what we just heard.

@david: I've only talked to him once since I moved. He's back and forth from Japan and NYC, but seems to be mostly in Japan these days.

... i have this chefboy r.d. bit on cassette, off the radio, from long before 1999. i always thought it was negativland.
Avatar 3:29pm
geezerette:

Were the guys involved in Gutai movement?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
david w:

Cool coel. I'll have to look into that. And don't sweat the narrator, there's a lot of good-natured misdirection going on here.
Avatar 3:31pm
northguineahills:

I talk to Olive more often, I'll ask him and o.blaat (Keiko Uenishi).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
david w:

Kajiwara might just be old enough to have glanced off Gutai, but I think no. ngh know more? Shimada is, I think, a much younger and femaie person.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
fred:

I remember sharing with PBG a link to samples of text-to-speech synthesis from 1968 to 2001. In French, though, as are the explanations: groupeaa.limsi.fr...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
coelacanth∅:

- of course it's possible Toshio and Taketo incorporated an already modified piece into their piece. i've done that many times. i have a cassette from i don't know maybe late 80s? called "fmu+me". before i'd ever heard of negativland it was being played a lot on fmu, and announcing what was played was an occasional luxury. so silly me thought the djs were actually mixing that live!
- then i added onto that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
david w:

Oh Fred I love that early text-to-speech stuff. We used to write impossible poetry for it and got wondrous results.
Avatar 3:41pm
geezerette:

So glad to be introduced to this music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
david w:

@coelacanth∅: good point. This recording was of a "newly" commissioned work (I didn't see the show) but I could find some witnesses, even tech people, who helped make it happen. Then again, I love not being able to reverse engineer it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
david w:

My pleasure, geezerette. You see how I couldn't bring myself to edit this one.

Shit, Toshio is pushing 50. I don't know Taketo Shimata. Although influenced by Gutai, I don't believe he was part of it at any point. I have a loverly 3" cdr Toshio did w/ Shelley Hirsh in 2003 in Moscow that's out of this world.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm

I once Squarepusher doing a solo bass set. It was a disaster (think guy in music store trying effect pedals). Evan Parker joined him on stage, but that was autopilot Parker, so that didn't improve the thing much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm
david w:

Sad story. Not entirely surprising.

I have that Squarepusher album, it grew on me. I saw him when he made his transition from IDM D&B to bass fusion. I liked it enough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
fred:

Sadly I've never seen C Spencer Yeh. The few times I had a chance (last time was Burning Star Core) I was at a dance show instead
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
david w:

Yeh works hard on the live show. Always trying something new and usually succeeding. Worth the effort.

This music is exactly like painting. It's like what goes on in a painter's mind while working.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm
fred:

@David: I'm sure he's worth effort, but dance show tickets are hard to get here. I already have 40 tickets for next season (until late June), and probably around half of these shows are already sold out. 10 of these are for Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker shows (who I've already seen more than 50 times), and these shows have been sold out for more than a month
Avatar 4:38pm

C Spencer Yeh used to be in Brroklyn/Queens every few months it seemed, so, I've seen him probably a half dozen times. Always a blast.
