I like bands that sound live somewhat like they do on record, but not too much. When it sounds exactly like the studio performance, nuance for nuance, I wonder why I bothered paying the money and crowding into a hot room with a mob of strangers.

Well, what I really like is when the live version is a little harder and more ragged than the studio original. To pick a kind of WFMU-incorrect example, even as a kid, I preferred the live version of "Roundabout" by Yes to the original. The studio version is pretty good progressive rock music, but the live version is rock and roll (says I).
