The core of Big Planet Noise was formed when Bob Irwin was just 5 years old. The day he picked up his first 45, the whole thing set to spinning – and records and music have been pretty much all he’s thought about ever since. Avocation eventually became vocation, leading to Sundazed Music and Modern Harmonic, all drawing inspiration from Bob’s legendary collection. But, what good is having so many records if no-one else can hear them with you?

Big Planet Noise is Bob’s way of inviting everyone over to hang out in the music room while he and co-host Gina Bacon flip through the stacks and play great records. And – the BPN chat room is where the action is… they yak about what’s on the turntable, tell stories, backstories, and share what was had for dinner, friends ’n family style. Gina keeps the celestial orbit steady-as-it-goes; making sure the stylus stays in the groove, the stacks don’t teeter and the drinks don’t spill all over the console. NB: Gina can also be heard on Saturday afternoons as the host of Someday Matinee (also on WFMU's Give The Drummer Radio stream), a show filled with live musical performances and artist interviews, direct from Music City.

There’s a reason it’s called Big Planet Noise… the show covers a lot of musical ground; familiar, forgotten, unheralded, unheard… The sonic menu is ever-changing; you’ll hear oddball teens, psychedelic wizards, mod lads, sitar savants, space-cadets, groovy soundtracks, and maybe even some bossa nova, when it feels right.

Big stack o' Brit 45s!

Yeah - this was like our third or fourth Ichiban show - you'll hear how "reserved" we sound! Hahahahaha

Hi Jay! Hey Andy! Hi Mailman Tom! Hello, Snayle!!!

Tim from LH:

Hello everyone, hope you guys enjoy your vacations. So every show you are spinning the records and announcing live ? Not sure how it works on the ichiban stream.
Avatar 8:10pm
bigplanetnoise:

Hey Tim - this show is pre-recorded. We're rolling the old show, but we're here in real-time in the chat, and we're posting the show's songs live!

Hi Tim from LH!
Avatar 8:12pm

It takes about 26-28 hours to put every show together, if you can believe that... so, a little breather every now and then is ... needed!!!!
  8:12pm
Snayle:

Hi Big Apple Gina ! Hi A'Bama Bob ! <3 Happy Monday One and All ! Happy to hear a retro show! So many cool bands and tunes in that era !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm

I'm glad we can still be here with y'all! The wonders of technology! (:

Avatar 8:15pm
bigplanetnoise:

That's so true, Snayle!!!
  8:15pm
Tim from LH:

It’s cool! British Invasion might be my favorite of all genres. Do you think it has all been discovered or do you think there is more out there to be unearthed?
  8:16pm
Snayle:

Don't worry Bob, we've turned up the heat here in NYC too so Gina can re-enter the Nashvegas atmosphere with ease... :D
Avatar 8:16pm
bigplanetnoise:

Thanks, Tim! Yeah - it's def one of my faves, too. i think there's always stuff to unearth - just when you think it's all out there, boooom - more is discovered!

  8:18pm
Snayle:

Wow, that Graham shore was a pretty talented kid... dang !
Avatar 8:20pm
bigplanetnoise:

I think there should be a twelve-hour Brit Invasion marathon at some point on Ichiban.... Can we do that?
  8:20pm
Andy R:

I could listen to UK tracks all day long! I'm down with this.
  8:21pm
Snayle:

YESSSS Go For It !!!
  8:22pm

Turn it into Wonderful Radio London for a day

But everyone will be all uptight if I play a full hour of Freddie & the Dreamers???!!?!?!
  8:25pm
Jay S.:

Fine with me, every new one I hear I like
Avatar 8:27pm
bigplanetnoise:

I know they were incredibly goofy, but I still love 'em. AND - who else do you know that has an open-ended interview disc of Freddie & the Dreamers from 1964?!?!?!?! I CAN EVEN INTERVIEW THEM on All-Day-Radio-London!
  8:28pm
Jay S.:

HA! That's fantastic!
  8:30pm
Snayle:

What a great idea Bob !!! We can do the Freddie all day and all of the night ! (opps sorry Ray) ! How long is that '64 convo disc? Gosh I remember when we did some discs like that with answers from said artist so DJ's could say they interviewed...so n so.. Ha! So, if Freddie &TD's can fill a whole hour, who else would fill the remaining ?
Avatar 8:31pm
bigplanetnoise:

I'd give you 11 hours of other cool Brits!!!!!
  8:33pm
Snayle:

If you need someone to count on, count me in !
Avatar 8:33pm

My fave Troggs cut... such gnarly guitar!
  8:34pm

A full hour of Freddie might be pushing it to limit, but Freddie in small doses like that one sounds fine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
Gina Bacon:

I really love this one too.
  8:34pm

I found this great Fontana LP release a few months ago of "British Invasion Hits." Even comes with a fold out Union Jack!
  8:35pm
Tim from LH:

The Troggs rule!
Avatar 8:35pm
