Are you all sitting comftybold two-square on your botty? Then we'll begin...
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 5:58pm mce1965:

Will you be playing any of Rod's solo material as part of this Faces tribute?
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:00pm DennisK:

Aloha!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:00pm Woof:

Hello Andrew! Hello everyone!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:02pm cometothesunshine:

welcome!
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:02pm uptownjen:

Hey, all! Best to you from steamy, sunny Chicago!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:03pm cometothesunshine:

and when they are loud, THEY ARE VERY LOUD INDEED!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:04pm cometothesunshine:

Finally not unbearably hot here in Los Angeles
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:04pm DennisK:

Hiwatts, I believe - or were they Marshalls?
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:04pm cometothesunshine:

I am not sure how picky they were about their gear.
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:04pm DennisK:

We just cranked up the summer heat again here in NJ
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:05pm cometothesunshine:

They seemed to spend more time buying shoes.
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:05pm DennisK:

I seem to recall that Steve liked that classic Pete Townshend Gibson SG/Hiwatt combo
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 8/27/18 6:05pm Steeley Chris:

Greetings from hot and sunny southern New England - this episode is a dream come true
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:06pm DennisK:

And what shoes they were!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:07pm cometothesunshine:

welcome all!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:08pm cometothesunshine:

Next week Come To The Sunshine will be on from 11am (eastern) - 8pm in honor of our twelve year anniversary.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:08pm cometothesunshine:

From 5-8 (eastern) there will be a brand new anniversary show.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:08pm cometothesunshine:

If I haven't blown everyone's speakers with this show.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:09pm mce1965:

Or if Don Arden hasn't kicked them in
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:10pm cometothesunshine:

Arden is given little credit for producing some of their earlier records - I think it is unique that from 1966-1968 they were basically allowed to produce themselves.
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:11pm uptownjen:

Looking forward to that! This show is perfect for today.
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:12pm DennisK:

Wow! Will certainly mark the calendar for that extravaganza!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:12pm cometothesunshine:

Thanks, Jen!
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:16pm DennisK:

I don't have Ogden's in mono - gotta rectify that.....
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:16pm cometothesunshine:

Well, they seemingly lost the tape - so even the CDs are from vinyl. My vinyl is mint, but plays a little crackly (as you can hear)
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:17pm DennisK:

Was there a stock mono issue, Andrew, or DJ only?
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:17pm DennisK:

This is a great mix
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:17pm cometothesunshine:

Certainly stock in the UK - but no issue in the US. Not sure if any other countries issued the true mono mix.
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:18pm sittingnexttobrian:

I believe this song (Afterglow) was on the same list of Andy Partridge's fave songs that had "I Can't Let Maggie Go". Wow, those harmonies! Never heard this mix.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:19pm cometothesunshine:

Interesting how many records featured the RMI electric piano - and how not valuable they are.
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:19pm DennisK:

WHOA!
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:19pm DennisK:

Great fade!!!
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:21pm DennisK:

Ah, RMI.... the sound of "Til I Die" (and so much else)
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:21pm DennisK:

The Desper mix, anyway
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:21pm sittingnexttobrian:

Request: "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow". Which (to me at least) sounds much more like 21st Century neo-psych (like Tame Impala or something) than anything happening in '66.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:23pm cometothesunshine:

you will hear it in a bit - sitting next to
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:24pm uptownjen:

I need “I Can’t Make It” on 45! I love it!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:25pm cometothesunshine:

Yeah, it is a great one, Jen.
Mon. 8/27/18 6:28pm Tim from LH:

I love these artist spectaculars!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:28pm cometothesunshine:

Thanks, Tim!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:29pm cometothesunshine:

I went through dozens of different mixes and versions that are out there on various compilations to present this selection for you all today. It sounds pretty good!
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:29pm Jimmy C:

THIS IS AWESOMENESS. So fun blasting this show right now. Cheers!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:30pm mce1965:

That Afterglow hasn't been out before, has it?
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:30pm uptownjen:

That’s a great live performance right there.
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:31pm sittingnexttobrian:

Groovy, thanks Andrew. For the request and the whole shebang.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:31pm cometothesunshine:

It is a unique edit/mix I put together for this show, MCE
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:31pm DennisK:

Great stuff, Andrew! Digging' it da most!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:31pm mce1965:

very nice
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:31pm cometothesunshine:

You are very welcome sittingnext
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:31pm cometothesunshine:

Cool - DK! I'll drink to that.
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:32pm DennisK:

Cheers!
Mon. 8/27/18 6:32pm Tim from LH:

I have only a few 45’s of theirs and a cd of greatest hits, so so much of this is new to me. Sounding great!
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:33pm DennisK:

Aw, Tim - you gotta cop Ogden's Nut Gone Flake! One of the greatest LPs ever.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:36pm cometothesunshine:

Yes, I was surprised going back over it this past week how strong it is.
Mon. 8/27/18 6:36pm Tim from LH:

Dennis, you reminded me, I do have that one. A cheap reissue, forget the label.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:38pm cometothesunshine:

This was a 45 only repro of an acetate.
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:42pm sittingnexttobrian:

Was that your own Ogdens/Intruder edit?
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:42pm cometothesunshine:

Yes, I did some unique edits for this show.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:43pm cometothesunshine:

Kenney Jones!
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:43pm sittingnexttobrian:

Exactly! I was going to say that edit deprived me of a classic KJ fill, but there are plenty more to go around.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:45pm cometothesunshine:

This version of Groovy is longer than the 45
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:45pm uptownjen:

P.P. Arnold has my favorite female voice of that era
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:46pm uptownjen:

I remember when you posted that picture of her with you, Andrew. I would so love to see her live.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:47pm cometothesunshine:

I saw her and she was great - I have an amazing story about her that I will tell you next time we meet up.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:47pm cometothesunshine:

This one of my favorite records of the 1960's - Would You Believe
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:47pm uptownjen:

(She still has a great voice, from what I have heard in the recent videos I’ve seen of her performing.)
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:50pm cometothesunshine:

This is a neat mix of Lazy Sunday they did for the BBC - they turned all the weird overdubs way up
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:51pm uptownjen:

That ‘The Turning Tide’ album that FINALLY came out last year was one of my favorite records I’ve heard in recent years. (I wish it had gotten wider release, though. I told so many people about it, but they couldn’t get a copy as it was already sold out.)
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:52pm uptownjen:

Great mix of “Lazy Sunday”! It’s popping out of my speakers!
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:52pm sittingnexttobrian:

This mix is so cool! Hey, I've never listened to any of the '77 reunion stuff. Anything worthwhile?
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:53pm cometothesunshine:

I never felt the '77 reunion stuff was all that great - but it could be worth a second listen.
  Mon. 8/27/18 6:54pm sittingnexttobrian:

No Ronnie=missing an important element. That's what's kept me away.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:55pm mce1965:

Playmates: one of the few albums I ever returned after buying at the age of 12. The clerk took pity on me
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:57pm cometothesunshine:

You survived to buy other albums featuring Kenney Jones in later years.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:58pm mce1965:

Yes indeed. I felt like returning Face Dances after first listen
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:59pm cometothesunshine:

A grower
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 6:59pm mce1965:

Hmmmm
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:03pm cometothesunshine:

The discussion of the non-US tour makes me wonder what kind of a show the Small Faces might have played in the states.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:03pm mce1965:

This is one slam bang show, Andrew
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:03pm cometothesunshine:

All killer - no filler!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:04pm mce1965:

amen brother
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:05pm cometothesunshine:

I actually remember the first Small Faces album I bought some 30 years ago (after raves from Paul Weller). It was on NEMS and I did not know what to make of The Universal. It took me a few years to totally love.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:07pm mce1965:

You weren't hooked after hearing their cover of Get Yourself Together on the Snap! 45?
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:07pm DennisK:

My older brother had There Are But Four, but it was Ogden's that blew my mind back in '68
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:08pm DennisK:

Might have been '69 by the time it reached my ears
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:09pm cometothesunshine:

I actually loved their version of Get Yourself Together.
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:09pm DennisK:

A few years later The Autumn Stone sealed the deal
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:09pm mce1965:

Me too! That's why I asked
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:10pm mce1965:

That's what made me dig deeper than Itchycoo Park and Lazy Sunday on the Sire History of British Rock LPs, which were the only tracks I had up to that point
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:10pm DennisK:

Gotta slide outta here - will pick up the end on the podcast. GREAT show, Andrew - many thanks!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:10pm cometothesunshine:

The Autumn Stone is/was a bit of a mixed bag. Never understood the live part!
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:10pm sittingnexttobrian:

I first knew "Get Yourself Together" via the Jam version. Sings it in a lower octave if I remember correctly, so the Small Faces version was jarring at first.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:11pm cometothesunshine:

Thanks, DK!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:11pm mce1965:

Exactly re: lower
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:11pm cometothesunshine:

I prefer the Small Faces version - but, boy I loved that Snap! EP.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:12pm mce1965:

Yep... never knew it had a picture sleeve until you told me... and I bought the LP the week it came out via import!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:12pm cometothesunshine:

The Great Depression is one of my favorite songs.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:13pm mce1965:

Yeah, I really love that version
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:13pm cometothesunshine:

I once saw a cassette version of the EP in England - wished I had bought it until the CD version showed up.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:14pm mce1965:

No kidding? Wacky
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:14pm mce1965:

Well, thanks to you I now own the pic sleeve after 35 years... life felt a little more complete!
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:15pm sittingnexttobrian:

It really blew my mind to see Weller on the cover of the new Mojo (ha). Is he part-owner?
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:15pm mce1965:

Yeah, the Modgreatgrandfather
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:16pm cometothesunshine:

Yeah - I saw some crazy things I never saw again on my trips in the 1984 & 85. Sadly, I did not have as much money to buy stuff. Although, there were records everywhere: Boots, WH Smith - you name it!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:16pm mce1965:

Yes, those were golden days... I felt your pain then too.
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:16pm sittingnexttobrian:

(he seems to be on every fifth cover)
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:17pm mce1965:

That's because he releases a new bad album every other month
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:17pm cometothesunshine:

Weller - always making a comeback.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:18pm mce1965:

The Willie Nelson of Mod
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:18pm cometothesunshine:

yes, he is.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:19pm mce1965:

Of course, the new album promises the return of pastoral wonder
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:20pm mce1965:

Anyway... back to the SF... hopefully the Modgreatgrandfather is listening to this show because it is truly aces. What a great damn group.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:20pm cometothesunshine:

You can't turn back time.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:21pm mce1965:

But you do every Monday, my friend... successfully, I might add.
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:21pm uptownjen:

“All Or Nothing” takes me back to my teen years and reminds me of how much Rhino’s British Invasion 9-disc series rocked my world.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:22pm cometothesunshine:

That is very kind of you - I live in a museum (so I'm okay).
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:22pm cometothesunshine:

Yes, that series was so influential/inspiring, Jen
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:24pm mce1965:

Didn't you help on the second batch of those Brit CDs?
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:24pm cometothesunshine:

A tiny bit - I was certainly around for some of the mastering sessions at A&M
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:25pm sittingnexttobrian:

Yeah! Wooden Hills--that was my second request.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:25pm mce1965:

There were some great surprises on those... all those cool mono versions.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:26pm mce1965:

Well... I must depart from the chat but will continue listening via moblie... thank you for another incredible show Andrew. You make many happy with your gifts.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:27pm cometothesunshine:

Thanks - enjoy your trip home - tell me if you find the other half of the moon.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:28pm mce1965:

Will do
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:28pm uptownjen:

I love being able to chat with like-minded souls this way. When my mind was being blown by those Rhino discs in the early 90’s, I had no one to geek out with.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:29pm Mailman Tom:

I tuned in late. I'll have to listen to your show when it gets archived. I love the Small Faces. I did get to see the Faces with Rod Stewart in 1971, but the lineup was a lot different.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:29pm cometothesunshine:

None of us did! There was no way to find other people - even in a big city.
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:29pm sittingnexttobrian:

And 1/5 taller.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:30pm cometothesunshine:

Thanks, Mailman Tom. Yes, they were bigger than Rod.
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:30pm uptownjen:

Man, those BBC transcription discs are a treasure trove! So glad some of those are still kicking around.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:30pm cometothesunshine:

This song - I'm Only Dreaming - may be my favorite Small Faces 45.
Mon. 8/27/18 7:33pm Tim from LH:

It’s a great song!
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:34pm uptownjen:

That’s a great one, Andrew.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:35pm cometothesunshine:

This one is beautiful too - almost played the stereo mix, but kept this show all of the mono mixes.
Mon. 8/27/18 7:36pm Tim from LH:

What is the a side of I’m Only Dreaming?
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:37pm sittingnexttobrian:

Always a sucker for a flute solo not played by Ian Anderson.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:37pm cometothesunshine:

Itchycoo Park
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:37pm uptownjen:

So “Up the Wooden Hills to Bedfordshire” does mean going upstairs to bed! I’ve heard about “going to Bedfordshire” meaning going to sleep, so that’s what I was thinking it meant. Glad you confirmed it!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:38pm cometothesunshine:

Yeah, I highly recommend Ian McLagan's book - really funny and detailed.
Mon. 8/27/18 7:40pm Tim from LH:

That Bedfordshire song was great. Love Ronnie Lane’s voice. Nice contrast to Marriot.
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:43pm sittingnexttobrian:

I decided recently if I could choose a band to have been in in the early 70's it'd have been Faces. Just the right amount of everything for that period. Except I'm a real lightweight with booze.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:43pm cometothesunshine:

you would not have lasted long then!
Mon. 8/27/18 7:46pm Tim from LH:

I met Ian Mac twice at his solo gigs. What a super nice guy.
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:48pm cometothesunshine:

I met him once in Austin and he was incredibly nice!
  Mon. 8/27/18 7:48pm uptownjen:

Lordy! This is a monster!
Avatar Mon. 8/27/18 7:49pm cometothesunshine:
