Hearing you and the intro on this side!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:07am listener james from westwood:

Oh, fuck, last week was a boulevard of broken sleep. What dreams I did have were wild.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:09am duke:

I really enjoyed the Wildflowers series of albums that covered the Loft Jazz scene
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:10am duke:

What was the book your wife gave you? I would like to read about that scene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:12am Jeff Golick:

@duke: www.ucpress.edu... - Loft Jazz by Michael C. Heller. It's from a university press and has some academese to wade through, but a very solid document of the scene, from several perspectives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:14am Jeff Golick:

Also good: this 1977 Stanley Crouch article in the New York Times about the loft scene: www.nytimes.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:14am duke:

Thanks Jeff. Just downloaded it from NYPL.
  Sun. 10/7/18 9:18am Doug Schulkind:

I’m waiting to finish grad school so I can read that book! (Thanks to brother Lore of 50 Miles of Elbow Room for gifting me with it.)

Wait, whut?! I am finished with grad school? Outstanding!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:20am Jeff Golick:

@Doug: well done, sir! And welcome, sir!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:22am Jeff Golick:

Computer question: for playlist stuff I'm using my wife's MacBook, and whenever I type a new comment, it opens a new tab (instead of a pop-up) for the Post That Now stage. I have selected "allow pop-ups" for this site, but it doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:32am Sem:

Good morning, Jeff, and hello to the OUT crowd, and those who identify as OUT curious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:33am Jeff Golick:

Hello, @Sem!
  Sun. 10/7/18 9:35am Doug Schulkind:

Gotta wade back into the Triscuit Sea. Keep hurling those musical life preservers, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:35am Uncle Michael:

Jeff, does the broser have a plug-in or setting that by design, forces pop-ups into new tabs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:36am Uncle Michael:

I'm out with the OUT crowd. I go where the OUT crowd goes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:37am doctorjazz:

Hi. Haven't heard this Murray album in ages ,love the sound of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:38am Scraps:

h’lo hey
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:38am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @UM. Not that I can see. It's Chrome, btw.

Heyo, @doctorjazz!

Wassup, @Scraps!

Yesterday was the tenth anniversary of October 6, 2008: my stroke (and my right-side paralysis), at 44 years old, when I got suddenly old. It’s still weird.

(I’ve announced this in a few places, and if you were there and are exasperated, I’m sorry.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:53am Scraps:

Thassup! ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:54am Jeff Golick:

Your fortitude is an inspiration, @Scraps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 9:57am Scraps:

Love India Navigation!
Avatar Sun. 10/7/18 10:00am glenn:

boulevard of broken sleep. very clever, listener james, and oh, so spot on the money.
Avatar Sun. 10/7/18 10:01am glenn:

try using firefox or safari. i'm not crazy about chrome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 10:06am Scraps:

Firefox lost me when they announced they would only do one row of tabs. I switched to Pale Moon, a Firefox-like that veered off. I’m still happy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 10:08am Jeff Golick:

Howdy, @glenn! Trying safari now...

...worked! Thanks.
Avatar Sun. 10/7/18 10:09am glenn:

i don't know why the computer nerds hate safari.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 10:15am listener james from westwood:

Not exasperating at all, Scraps. We are all lucky to have you with us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 10:31am David D:

Hey Jeff and everyone! Healing wishes to you, Scraps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 10:33am Jeff Golick:

Yellow, @David D. More New York sounds for ya. Where to next?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 10:33am David D:

These are some great sounds, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 10:40am Jeff Golick:

Glad you are enjoying, @David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 10:48am Uncle Michael:

Scraps, thanks for the pointer to Pale Moon. This looks promising.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 11:19am Jeff Golick:

Hi! End of show note: today is the 63rd anniversary of the first public reading of Allen Ginsberg's "Howl." To mark this occasion, Give the Drummer Radio will broadcast Ginsberg reading the poem, from a 1956 performance at San Francisco State U. (The very first was on this date in 1955.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 11:19am Jeff Golick:

That Ginsberg poem will begin immediately following the end of today's D:O Radio. (Plus or minus a minute or two.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 11:52am Uncle Michael:

Wow. Give the Drummer Radio DJs are pretty great. We should all give the station more money!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 11:56am Uncle Michael:

Heading out to the Apple Festival (in the rain). Thanks for the music, Jeff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 11:58am Jeff Golick:

Enjoy them apples, @UM, and thanks for being' here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 11:59am listener james from westwood:

You've met this show's lofty aspirations—thanks, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 11:59am David D:

Thanks again, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 12:03pm Jeff Golick:

Aw, thanks, @listener James and @David D. So glad you were here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/7/18 12:04pm Jeff Golick:

(and I'm stealing your comment, @ljfw, for the show title)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/23/18 7:58pm hyde:
