Avatar 🥁 10:46am βrian:

"Yoh-ki," says the Googe.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:46am Jeff Golick:

According to the University of Portsmouth, Doug, "The German consonant 'j' is almost always pronounced in the same manner as the English 'y' sound that in words such as 'yes', 'yellow' or 'yard'. It is formed when the middle of the tongue makes contact with the hard palate and it is a 'voiced' sound i.e. you can feel you vocal cords vibrate when the sound is articulated. "
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Doug Schulkind:

Thanks, βrian! Or is it Zhian?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am Webhamster Henry:

The trouble is, sometimes there are loan words in German. For a while "Jazz" was pronounces "Yotz" and may still be. Names fall into this category. But without an international phone call, I'd go with "Yoki"

@sinner
Oh yes oh yes. Such riveting stuff.

Hiyo, good music to haul the old 27" tube TV out to the car. I can drop it off at Best Buy later and say "Goodbye" to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Doug Schulkind:

Hello, Ken From Hyde Park! Goodbye, old 27" tube TV!

Avatar 11:28am northguineahills:

The Bot is always funky, you should see their dance!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Doug Schulkind:

Hey there, Question Mark (or is it Question Marc?). Those are just little rung/handles drawn into the animation. I forget where I found the original video. It's been floating around the Internets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Stanley:

Good n funky, this

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am coelacanth∅:

i gave away a tv 2-3 years ago. high-end large tube tv from maybe 15 years earlier? barely ever used. used a vcr to make sure it still worked and threw that in when they took the tv. all free. 'could've thrown it in the dumpster.
then a few days later they contacted me to say the vcr went aflame - implying they wanted a new one.
it always warms me when i do something nice for a stranger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am coelacanth∅:

Many years ago, Larry Grogan, host of the Drummer Stream show Testify, blogged about this very subject. Check out his excellent essay here: funky16corners.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Doug Schulkind:

In Larry's piece (linked to above), I learned of this vocal version of "Girl From Kenya." I had only heard an instrumental version. Thanks, Larry!

@Little Danny - I missed your program last night, will be checking via archives. But I have a valid excuse - for the first time in 2 years I spun out 45s! (One of which was 'African Twist' by Stacy Lane.)

@JtotheK, I'm sorry to report that everybody missed most of the show while LD's computer crawled through an OS update.
