Guatemalan singer Doctor Nativo named his excellent debut solo album Guatemaya to honor the inspiration he gets from his home country's Mayan culture and spirituality. The album, on the esteemed Central American indie label Stonetree Records, also features Tzutu Kan. Kan raps in Tz’utujil, a Mayan language. Nativo and Tzutu are joined by an all-star crew of New York musicians for a live set on this week's show.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm Rob Weisberg:

Yes Adrián, Kombilesa Mi is a Palenquero hip hop band, usually backed up by traditional drums plus sometimes they'll add electric instruments in the studio like on the track I played. (Sorry that dropped out a little earlier than planned.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Rob W:

In addition to their free show in NY on Thurs Oct 25 @ Lincoln Center Rubenstein Atrium, Kombilesa Mi is scheduled to play Wed Oct 17 @ Old Town School of Music in Chicago and Fri Oct 19 @ Tropicalia in Washington DC.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm Rob W:

Wow ngh - we recently encountered just one ladybug in Hoboken and we considered that a major event! Clearly it's a different life out there - good luck debugging!
Avatar 8:32pm northguineahills:

@Franco: I'm as WASP as it gets, w/o the blue blood. Almost all English-Scottish. Appalachian stock....
Avatar 8:37pm northguineahills:

@Rob: two weeks ago, I ordered 1500 ladybugs. They now think of my as lord of the lady bugs. When I go outside, they flock to me. (I released 250 of them per night).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm Franco Twinkie:

NGH,that's just the opposite of Chresti and myself, She's Scotch - English - German and I'm a Pocho.
Avatar 8:43pm northguineahills:

I guess, I'd be more Scotch-English, even most of my English ancestors are originally from Scotland. The wife, is mostly Mexicatl, w/ a bit of French and Cornish (she looks indigenous, but is 5'10", due to her Euro heritage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm Franco Twinkie:
