Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 6:29pm Louis Bova:

Andrew, Quick question .... do we have a situation here that the Sunshine Pop Sound of the West Coast influenced our cousins across the pond causing a rift in the 60's the British Invasion ?
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 6:30pm cometothesunshine:

Yes, very much so - especially hour 2 with Tony Rivers
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 6:36pm cometothesunshine:

Today is like hearing a whole unissued album by the Idle Race
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 6:36pm mce1965:

Pretty much
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 6:37pm Louis Bova:

Any collaborations between an American band and/or producer & a British band ? ....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 10/15/18 6:37pm Carmichael:

For some reason, this sounds like George Harrison.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 10/15/18 6:38pm Carmichael:

The Bruno, I mean.

Yeah, even with G. Martin at the helm... just couldn't compare
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 6:54pm Louis Bova:

Is it my imagination or am I hearing a Davy Jones influence on Simon ?
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 6:54pm cometothesunshine:

no, I wish their LP wasn't worth a fortune
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 6:54pm KarenS:

Davy-ish
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 6:54pm cometothesunshine:

Louis - I don't think it was attempt to sound like Davy
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 6:56pm Louis Bova:

maybe it was the cabaret style ?
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 6:57pm cometothesunshine:

Man, this set of singles was worth every penny! Brilliant
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:03pm Louis Bova:

hahahaha
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:04pm cometothesunshine:

Singles went long today at the expense of Tony Rivers - but it was beautiful

Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:10pm cometothesunshine:

I think Girl Don't Tell Me was the first Tony Rivers cut I ever heard
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:11pm cometothesunshine:

You can tell he loves what he is singing
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:11pm mce1965:

Very true
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:11pm cometothesunshine:

14 years ago, I stood behind him in line to see the debut of Brian Wilson's Smile in London
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:12pm Olivia Greene:

Wonderful!

Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:13pm KarenS:

Andrew, have you interviewed him?
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:13pm cometothesunshine:

No, but he is a friend on Facebook. A cat lover too. He was happy to be featured today on the show.
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:15pm cometothesunshine:

They sound as great as The Action on this one.
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:16pm cometothesunshine:

Castaways also featured future members of another favorite group: Grapefruit
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:18pm Louis Bova:

please say that you're gonna play Tony's version of "Caroline, No"
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:18pm cometothesunshine:

No, only time for so many songs today and focussed on rarities.
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:19pm Louis Bova:

tease ...hahaha
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:23pm cometothesunshine:

I bet they were great live - they sound great on these radio sessions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 10/15/18 7:23pm Gaylord Fields:

Hi, Andrew! WFMU’s second-biggest Tony Rivers fan is reporting!
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:23pm mce1965:

Thank you for this truly stellar show, Andrew! I shall listen to the rest in my car... can't wait until the next one!
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:24pm cometothesunshine:

Terrific, MCE
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:25pm cometothesunshine:

I knew you would surface, Gaylord!
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:27pm cometothesunshine:

Lots of rare Rivers to cross on today's programme
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:28pm cometothesunshine:

This 45 mix is a bit different than the LP
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:32pm cometothesunshine:

Gaylord - are you still with us?
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:33pm cometothesunshine:

About to play a live version of another favorite
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 10/15/18 7:33pm Gaylord Fields:

Sorry, just blissing out on the harmony (but not the grass).
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:34pm cometothesunshine:

This song is one of the very best
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 10/15/18 7:36pm Gaylord Fields:

It really is exemplary! And they re-create its intricacies so well live-in-the-studio!
  Mon. 10/15/18 7:36pm Tom C:

Not rare, but a few years ago Tony Rivers sang and did some arranging stuff on St Etienne's Tales from Turnpike House - which is a brilliant slice of everyday London life in a tower block circa 2000+. It's ace!
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:38pm cometothesunshine:

I bet, Tom C. Bob Stanley was with me when I bought many of the 45's I played in the first hour of this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 10/15/18 7:40pm Gaylord Fields:

@Tom C: I believe Tony sang with his talented son Anthony on TFTH.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 10/15/18 7:43pm Gaylord Fields:

And last year I paid a visit to Turnpike House, as well as the No. 1 Croydon Tower, in what was evidently my Saint Etienne architecture tour!
  Mon. 10/15/18 7:44pm Tom C:

AS & BS in a record shop together!?! That be some knowledgeable customers!
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:44pm cometothesunshine:

We spent a Friday out at various shops last week with a nice train trip too
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:45pm cometothesunshine:

We have been out buying records together for over 20 years.
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:47pm cometothesunshine:

Great to hear them cover the Peppermint Trolley Co
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:48pm Louis Bova:

I smell a buddy movie in there.....Who's Hope. Who's Crosby in this flick?
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:48pm cometothesunshine:

Hard to tell, but there is a lot of laughter without any schtick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 10/15/18 7:50pm Gaylord Fields:

And who would be their Dorothy Lamour?
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:50pm Louis Bova:

Lack of time spent in the Borscht Belt... off to the Poconos, son.
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:51pm KarenS:

Who gets the record you both want?
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:53pm Louis Bova:

Hahaha .I just got a mental picture of Andrew & Bob rolling around the floor of a record store shooting, "its mine...no it's mine....No, it's mine"....lol
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:53pm cometothesunshine:

There was one time, many years ago, when I pulled a full run of one artist from a box. And Bob said, "I knew you were going to do that." It didn't end in tears, but he looked sad.
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:55pm Louis Bova:

I hope you took him for ice cream later on....
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:55pm cometothesunshine:

We're still friends
  Mon. 10/15/18 7:55pm Tom C:

And the artist?
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:56pm cometothesunshine:

Honeybus
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 10/15/18 7:57pm Gaylord Fields:

I could see Andrew and Bob pulling the ol’ Hope/Crosby Patty Cake routine on a third record buyer.
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:57pm Louis Bova:

Seriously though, tonight's show is one for the books...if you dont get started on a British Sunshine Sound box set your gonna wind up with a ton of sad faced "Sunshiners".
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:58pm Louis Bova:

Exactly Gaylord!!!!
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:58pm KarenS:

Gosh, what a show today! Thank you Andrew.
Avatar Mon. 10/15/18 7:58pm cometothesunshine:

I want to thank everyone who listened today and especially those who pledged to the show: Woof, MCE, Karen, Tom Clark, Melissa Jean Gibson, Mark Nowlin, Doug Pratt & Tim Mannion. I truly appreciate all of the support!
