Mike Sin:

I very much enjoyed that conversation between Dave and Pseu. I'll just add -- I think it's important as folks get older not to turn into an instantly reflexive "judging machine" when it comes to a lot of new music. At this point, I've got a lot of my own hard-wired tastes, but it's better a lot of times to just hear something and say "that's just not for me" than to automatically go into the "that sucks" mode. Sometimes I think a lot folks from my age bracket ("generation x") just can't accept that their "hipness factor" ain't the commodity it once was.
  2:39pm
clarke:

well, that's kinda the 'point' about getting old, right? the only problem is that most of the 'older' people are correct: their music was a lot better!!
  2:40pm
clarke:

but, it is heartening to hear that a Gen-X person finds themself 'older', ha ha
  2:42pm
clarke:

but i hear what Mr. Sin is saying - close-minded-ness is rampant. i do it, i know... i sometimes dive into _____ to see what's out there, and then jump right back into my closed mind.
  2:44pm
clarke:

i have this thing (w/a hook) that if someone (i know) tells me to listen to something, i will do it, honestly, with an open mind. but, i also feel free to be completely honest when i review it to them, as well.
  2:46pm
Sam:

It's hard to be open minded about new pop music that's totally corporate, all written by the same two guys in Sweden, designed specifically to get stuck in your head by being annoying and repetitive, instead of beautiful or interesting. They're counting on enough "open minded" people to let it slide, and think it's them who are out of touch, instead of the music being poor quality.
