The documentary of that full Aretha performaance just came out after being shelved for years in a dispute with her, and because separately recorded sound wasn't in sync. Cheri, I don't think any gifts are bad or worse. Sure there's a lot of "What will I do with this?" But bad? No. When someone gives, that in itself is a gift. NotARealDoctor, I can't remember exactly how old I was but I'm guessing maybe 8 or 9. An elderly neighbour had gifted crayons and colouring books to me. I made a face and was like, Those are for babies! My parents weren't having that attitude. It was corrected quickly. A gift, liked, wanted or not is a great thing. No such thing as bad gifts.

I was at the Brooklyn Academy of Music a few months ago. There was a show booked as an Alice Coltrane tribute. It was music such as this but not as good. After John Coltrane’s death Alice funded a commune in California. It was multi-spiritual but they did lots of chants like this. The stage was filled with (old(er)?alumni, a synth, stand up bass and drum kit. They chanted these repetitive Om Rama Rama om om chants ad nauseam all night. The hall was half empty about 45 minutes into it. A bore. But also silly.

Jake, three things about CBD and coffee - 1) it appears to be a great way to get stimulation without the aggro effects of coffee alone plus some extra anti-oxidants 2) a little cbd oil goes a long way 3) a recent study of the diamond cbd brand reveals a bunch of crap in it, including synthetic thc (i.e. spice), even though they say 100% cbd oil. sooo, if you go this route, make sure to get a trusted pure organic cbd oil. hth.

@tneeld - audience members leaving MIGHT not be an indication of an artist’s talent - this show was just a bore. The Cecil Taylor show at the Library Of Congress a couple of decades ago cleared out the non-believers - but it was an awesome transcendent experience that I’ll remember for the rest of my life. But the Alice Coltrane “tribute” was just a bunch of seniors “singing” for 90+ minutes with Casio string synth accompaniment that was torturously torturous.

And when you hear people genuinely sobbing at the end when *spoiler* King Kong dies? Wow.

@andrewb: As a child in summer day camp at the time of the 1976 film, a Charles Grodin performance was meaningless to me.

That said, as an adult I like watching that dog movie “Beethoven” just to see Charles Grodin get increasingly pissed off at a cute dog.
