and, yes, agree that asheville (and ALMOST every other place) is getting awful sprawl-y. i am lucky to be surrounded by Nat'l Seashore land, so it hasn't hit where i am, now. YET!

clarke:

Z+ is my greatest bandcamp "discovery"!! any fan of this show would love 'em.
  7:06am
David in London:

Yes, agreed, lots of good stuff coming out of Bristol. Thanks for the link Sullivan. That said, the best 'new' UK band I've seen this decade come from Reading, the Sun Skeletons. Now, I'm increasingly aged and hard to please these days, but they utterly blew me away with how good they were. A great clip of them can be seen at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3QgTYm_ohw
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06am

ah sorry, didn't see that. I know most of the bands active these days and never heard of them. Will try to check em out. Ta.

John, two NYC college stations are good: WKCR, WNYU. WBGO in Newark has jazz. Lots of places have good "left-of-the-dial" non-commercial listener supported stations like, say, KBOO in Portland Oregon; or WORT in Madison, Wisconsin. KFJC in Los Altos Hills, California at Foothill College, a good one.
