Hi Jeff. I just got home so relaxing is not an option. Must. Hear. Music.

Good evening all!

Jeff Conklin:

How about listening to music AND relaxing??

Morning, all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am
Franco Twinkie:

Jeff, that is a bold concept you present. I will attempt to sit down and mull it over.
  12:20am
Mildly Surprised:

Has your mulling produced any results?
Avatar 12:22am
Jeff Conklin:

Im curious as well
Avatar 12:22am

maybe he's still standing

Good morning broadcaster Conklin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25am
Franco Twinkie:

I am sitting now, so that's a start.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am
Franco Twinkie:

I worked for Allen Wachs for a number of years and we never once talked about music. To bad, but in context of the jobs we were doing there just wasn't room for that. Missed opportunity for sure.
Avatar 12:44am
Jeff Conklin:

No way!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am
Franco Twinkie:

Way. Jeff, I'll tell you about it sometime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49am

Saw Rick Roberts doing this with The FBB in 1972 with a globular light show behind him. It was the first time I ever smokes hash. I was sixteen.
Avatar 12:52am

do you still smoke?

@DJJC: As loyal listeners of your show Aitch and I would like to hear some of your favorite live Hawkwind jawns before you move to S. Dakota. TIA

were you ever into Will Oldham, Jeff?
  1:11am
Jeff Conklin:

Love a lot of Oldham stuff!
Avatar 1:11am
mb:

I'm a semi-noob when it comes to live Dead but i will guess '77
  1:13am
Jeff Conklin:

I said it in the intro, Mb! 72
Avatar 1:15am
mb:

My fault. I went in to a tangent when you declared 'Why would anyone cover the Beatles in this day and age? Why?'
  1:17am
Agent Peter:

Sounds like a great show whenever it was...
Avatar 1:18am
Jeff Conklin:

Also, glad to soundtrack weird dad emails, weddings and bar mitvahs
  1:22am
joe:

Funny that the artwork is from Buffalo '89. Good Truckin' but a wee bit of a different band from the '72 lineup. The Other One on this date is where these guys earn the paycheck.
Avatar 1:23am
Jeff Conklin:

@joe: Not following you, Joe. Where are you seeing artwork?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25am
Franco Twinkie:

Tak, New Years Eve I broke my abstinence in San Francisco and walked around looking at the Victorians all lit up with twinkly lights, and I said YES, More of this!
  1:25am
joe:

it changed. it was from the official release when I first logged on.
  1:27am
Agent Peter:

El Paso "82? On the way to Jerry's birthday at Manor Downs? What? :-)
  1:28am
joe:

Sorry, official 89' release "truckin' to buffalo" was what was displayed when I first logged on. It has since changed to the Portland '72 release.
Avatar 1:28am
Jeff Conklin:

I'm still lost here. How are you listening that you see artwork??
  1:30am
joe:

on the live stream window. there is a box in the top right corner that displays artwork.
  1:32am
Agent Peter:

they're jamming our signals ace
Avatar 1:32am
Jeff Conklin:

Ah, well look at that! I had no idea haha
Avatar 1:35am
mb:

"Is this still "Truckin'?"

as heard at the recent Touch of Grey show at Willie McBrides
  1:37am
Agent Peter:

this part sure is purty. think it falls into the "jam" category.
  1:37am
saucerful:

Hi all, enjoying the show (been relaxing to the music). Love this Dead set. Thanks Jeff!
Avatar 1:38am
Jeff Conklin:

@mb: Had to google that. That band any good? If you wanna see top notch GD channelling, get thyself to a High Time show...
Avatar 1:38am
Jeff Conklin:

St Stephen adjacent jam, Agent Peter
  1:41am
Agent Peter:

But on the handwritten list on the side of the ol' cassette box it would just read "Jam------>" and then on the next line whatever it was they jammed into. I'm back in the olden timey taping days that's what it would like.
  1:42am
saucerful:

ha that's funny Agent Peter
  1:45am
saucerful:

Okay you all that now Dead show dates off the top of your head, when was that legendary show in Oregon in 1972 that was Ken Kesey's Cremery I think? Was it before or after this show at the Paramount in Portland?
  1:45am
saucerful:

*know
  1:45am
Jeff Conklin:

8/27/72
  1:46am
saucerful:

ha wow, that was fast! thank you :)
Avatar 1:47am
mb:

@DJJC: Cream of the crop for the Jersey scene if you catch them with the right drummer, imo...
  1:48am
saucerful:

It's amazing listening to this and then thinking about what they did one month later. Mind blowing...
Avatar 1:48am
Jeff Conklin:

@mb: Good to know!
  1:50am
joe:

It fair to say the boys were on a roll in '72. And not a stretch to say the roll lasted for 12 months.
  1:52am
saucerful:

Cool, I love learning about the Dead on this show.
Avatar 1:53am
Jeff Conklin:

@saucerful: That Veneta show (8/27/72) was captured wonderfully on film and officially released as "Sunshine Daydream". Well worth a watch!
  1:54am
gdevo:

!!!
  1:55am
saucerful:

Yeah, I've seen that! Great live footage...and I thought of that while listening to this July set.
  1:56am
Agent Peter:

And had a 10 year anniversary show for that one in '82. Debut of West LA Fadeaway, and either Hell in a Bucket or Day Job
  1:57am
Agent Peter:

Yes, well worth the watch. Many portions of it on YT.
  1:59am
Larry Hirshberg:

Agent Peter - Veneta '82 bust out was Day Job. And West LA. I was there. Good times. Peter Rowan was one of the openers, Played a sweet solo set on the main stage. Worked perfectly for that day! Robert Cray Band played on a side stage...
  2:01am
joe:

if you really want your moneys worth of Live dead, pass on the Veneta show and head over to the next show in Boulder, CO. (1972-09-03)
Avatar 2:02am
gregorianpants:

For me 73 always edged out 72 in terms of both jamming but also setlist variance.
Avatar 2:07am
Jeff Conklin:

DAY JOB NOOOOOOO
  2:09am
Agent Peter:

Larry - Was a birthday show for me. Next night in Seattle opening with one of the best Jack Straws ever. Phil well out of control. That Iowa-Oregon-Seattle trek was a lot of highway miles.
  2:10am
Agent Peter:

Don't give it away! :-)
  2:12am
joe:

Love the William Tyler. kinda wondered where you would go after '72 Dead & the MacKay - Tyler combo was nice

Avatar 2:50am

I'm assuming this isn't the Peter Lang from Glen Ridge, right? Cause this guy slays and the other dude knows a handful of chords, at least that was it 10 years ago.

Is Wilt Press considered a private press or a "label?" I was always fascinated by private press record dealers at shows and never understood the culture or the price tags.

Thank you

(yeah I meant Lajoie) cool way to start off this monday. have a week, thanks
Avatar 2:57am

pretty good show. killer ending. Thanks Jeff
Avatar 2:57am

I believe Wilt Press is his own label? Self-released/private press can sometimes mean the same thing but also not?

For all things regarding substance use I’m in the harm reduction camp. See book “over the influence” -even if you want to quit all at once and stay abstinent there are valuable perspectives to be gained here.
