	♥ 9:23am TDK60: I once was a guest DJ on a college radio show. I played Trane's Alabama. The student host DJ shocked me by saying: "What is this supposed be, some sort of protest jazz?" I took a breath and said, "Yep!" (Geez.)
	♥ 9:27am Jeff Golick: Ew. I got similar treatment at my college station, @TDK. My shift was 3-6am. At 6am, the jazz ended and the "college rock" began. Never once did the morning dj who followed me comment about what had gone on before. Though I do recall him snidely remarking once, to me, about some Joe Williams I was playing as he came in...

	11:07am Doug Schulkind: I have resisted every pang and urge to try to lead my daughter to the music of my preference. It remains a work in progress.

	11:08am Dean: My counter-counterexample: I listened now and then to Rod Stewart (Faces) as a kid. "Turn that shit down!" would ensue. Fast forward a decade or two and mom's all, "Isn't he a wonderful singer?"

	11:10am Doug Schulkind: As s teen, I would listen to my father describe the experience of seeing Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong in person, and it captivated me.

	🦀 ♥ 11:10am Granny Spicy Tuna: But what about when the parents try to take over the teen's tastes? Hearing my mom singing along with The Smiths in the 80s still haunts me.
	🦀 ♥ 11:12am doctorjazz: My older daughter is open to most music I love as long as it's not too "out". She plays me her latest rap discovery, which are often pretty cool (I get to be smart when I recognize the music that was sampled). My younger daughter will only listen to punk-pop, metal, maybe some indie (which I can go for except for screamo metal)

	11:13am Dean: Same for me with my parents, who caught Billie near the end. Story is my dad had to help her get up to the stage. I let my kids cultivate their own tastes. I learn from them, they from me. I now enjoy a certain few of the Britney Spears-like crowd these days. And Cardi B?! Swoon!

	11:21am Listener Gregory: Jeff, simply being exposed to music will have an effect. Your kids might not embrace it now, but they won't be afraid of it, the way many people are of music that isn't so catchy.

She has a small collection of vinyl, a number of 78s, LPs, and 45s. I've already appropriated the Bacharach, Jonathan & Darlene Edwards, Johnny Mathis, etc. Will comb through the rest soon.
