Favoriting Cratedigger's Lung with Rich In Washington: Playlist from February 8, 2019 Favoriting

Rich in Washington's avatar View Rich in Washington's profile Favoriting

A three-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

Mr Fab:

(sorry, I've been reading a coffee-table type book about beatniks called "Beatsville" so I'm talking, like, beat, man.)
  7:04pm
Martinibomb:

thanks don i'm in there now reading...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm
Rich in Washington:

My recent project has made me dig through my often neglected 7" bins, so I've managed to cobble a show together based on that.
Avatar 7:08pm
Don-O:

"You Suck!!" I recognize that sample from MANY Wayne Butane pieces!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm
Rich in Washington:

HA! That's great! I did not know that!
Avatar 7:10pm
Don-O:

Right now, The Weatherman is posting pictures of snow around his neighborhood. It seems coming your way, Rich.
  7:12pm
Martinibomb:

oh shit it's early. didn't think it was suppose to get her until the morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
Rich in Washington:

If my back-announces sound weird, I had recently installed an effects unit in my announce mic's effects send/receive, only to just now see that it doesn't go through the mix buss, rather the monitor/control buss. So I'm talking against a slight reverb bed which we cannot hear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
Rich in Washington:

It can take a really long time to come down from the Sound. The snow, I mean.
Avatar 7:15pm
Mr Fab:

Ha, I really need more Jad Fair
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
Rich in Washington:

I fairly (heh) recently got that, but too late for my Halloween shows this year.
  7:18pm
Martinibomb:

I saw Jad Fair once.. I can't remember the name of the project he was doing at the time. 1995ish?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
Rich in Washington:

Nag Nag Nag is the ultimate punk song and I will fight anyone over that fact.
  7:21pm
Martinibomb:

agreed. When I had my weekly at the Matador punk bar downtown that was one I played all the time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
Rich in Washington:

I really want to do a straight, guitar/bass/drums cover of it.
  7:23pm
Martinibomb:

let's do it! we'll form the Sheena's Jungle Room all star Band
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
Yvang:

Hi Rich! Great tracks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
Rich in Washington:

Hi Yvang! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm

This record sounds awful in more ways than one.
Avatar 7:32pm
Mr Fab:

Wow, never heard "Leg" actually trying to sing..
  7:32pm
Martinibomb:

yes it does hah
Avatar 7:34pm
Mr Fab:

I love how this jack Webb came out on a single. Like Capital thought it was gonna be a hit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
Rich in Washington:

Yeah, I wish that record wasn't so thrashed. I think it was given to me by someone at Boom Wow Records. The owners would give or set aside records they knew I collected, the store mainly being R&B singles, etc.
  7:35pm
Martinibomb:

I miss Basil
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
Yvang:

Wow! One of my favourite cartoonists of all times!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm
Rich in Washington:

I drove through his old neighborhood the other day.
Avatar 7:37pm
Mr Fab:

Basil Wolverton made a record?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm
Rich in Washington:

Yep. Also did a religious radio program out of Vancouver Washington.
  7:38pm
Martinibomb:

I always idolized him as a kid because he was one of the few Oregon cartoonists and he was from effing central point
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm
Rich in Washington:

I should ask his son if any recordings exist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm
Rich in Washington:

Me too.
  7:39pm
Martinibomb:

Carl Barks was the other oregon cartoonist I adored and still do
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
Rich in Washington:

Basil's actually from Vancouver, or at least that's where he lived, worked and eventually died.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
Rich in Washington:

Oh, I see your comment now. He was born in Central Point?
  7:41pm
Martinibomb:

Yup born in central point but yeah he lived up here and died etc.. i know people that knew him in the 60s/70s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
Rich in Washington:

I still think there should be a Lena Hyena bust on Main Street in Vancouver. I mean, there's a Willie Nelson mural and he was only a Vancouver DJ for a couple of years.
  7:43pm
Martinibomb:

this will powers is a cool track! diggin it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm
Rich in Washington:

Basil's son Monte lives in the embarrassing-ass hillbilly mudhole that I went to high school at - Battle Ground Washington.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm
Rich in Washington:

Yes. I fondly remember this song being played on weird shows on KBOO in the 80s.
  7:44pm
Martinibomb:

Lol Rich Battle Ground is like the new york city compared to where i went to HS
Avatar 7:47pm
Mr Fab:

Ha, yes, "Hello Lucille" is indeed in the stream. You know me too well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm
Rich in Washington:

I think I heard it once, at least. It's one of those records I first heard on Weirdsville, back in the day. I managed to snag the Norton reissue years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm
Rich in Washington:

The late Mrs. Robert Blake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm
Rich in Washington:

Dang. This show went FAST!
Avatar 7:55pm
Mr Fab:

OMG, can't believe you actually have this record.

We've been to the restaurant where the Robert Blake murder happened quite a bit. Once my wife sat right near him. He even joined in singing happy birthday to her friend.
  7:56pm
Martinibomb:

Shit only 5mins left! this Fall song was my surfin' jam used to blast it while driving out to my fave surf spots
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm
Rich in Washington:

I snagged that Leebonny record thanks to a local collector who tipped me off to the auction. She didn't want to touch it, but though I should get it!
  7:57pm
