Rich in Lunchroomton:

Elvis should've employed more seafood references in his song catalog.
  4:15pm
Martinibomb:

havn't heard anyone play much calypso here so thought i'd go that way today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I did a mix once in which I chopped the end of one track and the beginning of the following into small samples and made a mash-ups in the middle. I want to do that more often, but it's a lot of work for one show...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Steam - of Jukebox Shuffle fame! :-) - has gotten me into more ska and calypso etc :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm

Martinibomb:

I used to work a graveyard shift with a guy from Trinidad and he got me all into Lord Kitchener
  4:27pm
Martinibomb:

I love how all the lyrics are usually metaphors for sex in Calypso
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Lord Tanamo - I'm in the Mood for Love. Personal favourite. A propos of nothing. Just wanted to put that out there :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm
Jan Turkenburg:

This has something of Beethoven's Für Elise in it
  4:28pm
Martinibomb:

I got Lord Lanamo's Keep on Moving in this mix
  4:29pm
Martinibomb:

@Jan interesting observation I didn't catch that before
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

According to Wiki "The Aeronauts" aired on CBC in Canada in the early 70s but I have no memory of it. Weird. -(
  4:29pm
Martinibomb:

Oh it's canadian? I always thought it was a UK show. I think I've seen the opening of the show but never found a full episode
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's French - but they did an anglacised version for both Canada and the UK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm currently eating an oatmilk-based creme fraiche and I'm not sure about it. It's ... I don't know. there's something a little flat about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Putting in all the albums was driving me crazy. We don[t have to do that after this week do we?
  4:40pm
Martinibomb:

I thought it was just the first two weeks of feb.. i think it's okay now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

God I;m an idiot today ... I've even written it on my calendar. I had my poor daughter researching albums all morning for me! Oops ;-)
  4:43pm
Martinibomb:

eh..you're keeping her out of trouble and off drugs hahah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Oh, MB I didn't mean the Album title. "Pele" by Arthur Lyman" included the complete theme of Ritual Fire Dance by Manuel de Falla
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ha! She's the more sensible out of the two of us! ;-) I've even had times when she's asked me to turn my music down ;-) lol

Thanks MB. Super shot of a great show today. Jumping in for just a moment while I hear your voice saying hey hey!
  4:53pm

What's a Veggie Rundown? Grocery shopping or some kind of salve? hah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Salve for the Soul ;-)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

  4:58pm
Martinibomb:

@Fab oh yeah that's a good set. There's a smaller label I'm forgetting the name of.. i might send you to later that's been reissuing/putting some really great stuff out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

The first time I ever went to Brixton was in the summer of 81 or 82. And this music is reminding me of that :-) Happy times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Last time I went to Brixton was the weekend after Bowie died so not quite so happy times ... the mural is amazing tho, I have to say. <3
  5:00pm
Martinibomb:

@GG I thought you might feel that way. This stuff hit harder there than it did here I think. I don't remember hearing much back then
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Thanks , This is one hell of an hour, MB I'll probably first relisten it tomorrow before going into the second hour. Off to bed now. Bye all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

You can always tell that the summer's on its way because pasty white British people get the Bob Marley albums out ;-) lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Night, Jan! :-)
  5:02pm
Martinibomb:

Thanks Jan. I feel like I'm good at pulling stuff together and making a great mix but not so great on the history or drilling into details.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

You weave a magnificent vibe :-)
  5:04pm
Martinibomb:

@GG thank you very much!
  5:05pm
Martinibomb:

"I'm gonna whip them with my songs" great lyric
Avatar 5:12pm
Mr Fab:

@GG "Legend" seems to be most ppls sum total of their reggae knowledge. An album deliberately compiled to appeal to scared white folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Pretty much! Ha! Pasty white Brits ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

That's better :-) Karen Carpenter drumming was getting too much :-)
  5:19pm
Martinibomb:

I just heard some Carpenter's stems with her drums isolated..wow she was a good drummer! What an amazing musician she was
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Her isolated vocals are just stunning. And most of them were one take as well which staggers me.
The "Karen Carpenter drumming" was my avatar. I had to change it ;-)
Avatar 5:20pm
Mr Fab:

Irwin used to play an hour of calypso every week. Good times.
  5:21pm
Martinibomb:

I don't think Kitch is talking about a needle here
  5:22pm
Martinibomb:

Yeah I dug his Murial's thing.. what was it called? I think I got his DJ preimium. That was like 10 years ago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is pure filth. I love it :-)
  5:23pm
Martinibomb:

I think metaphors are okay to play on radio hahah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's only dirty if someone thinks it is which means that they're filthy and not you ;)
  5:25pm
Martinibomb:

hahah totally!!!
Avatar 5:27pm
Mr Fab:

Has anyone recorded the allegedly dirty lyrics to "Louie Louie"? I mean, theres been a million versions of that song...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm gonna have to bail and listen to the rest tomorrow if that's okay? My eyelids are drooping :-(
Fabulous show tho - I've had so much fun tonight :-)
Night everyone! Night John Boy! ;-)
  5:29pm
Martinibomb:

Good question. I just heard 2 hours of louie louie songs a couple months ago from another dj friend but I didn't pick up on anything like that with what he played.
  5:29pm

Have a good night GG! I'm about toast myself.. going to take a nap after this
