Heh, was chopping up bits from the "Shemp Meditation Tape" recently to add to the stream.

@Mr. Fab I did for many years - a baby grand AMPICO reproducing piano . It's over at my sister's house now, with about 300 or so rolls.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
Webhamster Henry:

... but I recorded a bunch of rolls before I sent it off: Here's the whistler!

that is so cool, henry! Thx for the download. i actually once attended a concert of new music for player piano. We sat there and watched the piano on stage playing itself.

Do you get frowns in MTL when you speak French? :D
Avatar 3:37pm
spacebrother:

I did.
Avatar 3:38pm
Otis Fodder:

Nah, only from the 'speak english' types you would see in the states. Cool folks don't frown upon someone trying. I always go French first and quite often fail miserably, but it's fun learning.
Avatar 3:40pm
Mr Fab:

"Italian Spiderman Theme" HA HA HA!!
Avatar 3:41pm
spacebrother:

Truthfully, I only got one bad reaction. Everyone else switched to English immediately.
Avatar 3:42pm
Otis Fodder:

That's it, the cool switch. When that happens I switch over with the person. Quite often, it continues as a mix of frenglish, bit of both.
Avatar 3:43pm
spacebrother:

Immersion. I guess you'd have to live with a roommate or other interested party to get good at it.

Kat in Chicago:

That sounds delicious, spacebrother. On my first visit to Montreal I was terrified to speak to anyone for the first 8 hours and then realized I was going to starve to death if I was afraid to order food in English :) I didn't have any problems. They say "Bonjour" I say "Hi," and they switch to English readily.

I am Duolingo-ing French right now so I can at least recognize some words the next time I go.

Kat in Chicago:

One negative about Bandcamp, and it's a significant one: search is pretty janky. I find it easier at times to just put what I'm looking for plus "bandcamp" in a regular search engine and follow a link from there.
Avatar 5:05pm
Mr Fab:

Hmm, this song used to have narration over it, didn't it?
Avatar 5:07pm
Otis Fodder:

@Fab - Yes on the LP. The variation version is on the 7" EP included with the LP.
Avatar 5:10pm
Mr Fab:

Kat, i actually wrote to Bandcamp a few years re that very issue. Like say you want "Death Metal" + "bagpipes". There's no way to do a more basic search then just, say, "Death metal." Searching can takes ages and yes it can be a bit frustrating. They said 'yeah, that's a great idea, maybe we'll do something like that.' Still waiting...But I do love Bandcamp, have used em for years.
  5:10pm

I found a copy of my hang em high cover and posted in the FB group... also a failed stereolab cover i forgot about
