	9:49pm JakeGould: 1979 was a great year. I was 11 years old. I knew how to—and did—ride the NYC subways from the deep end of Brooklyn to Washington Heights on the D and A trains all by myself. And at age 10 I went to see “Animal House” and barely understood like 40% what was happening. Damn… I was exposed to a lot by age 11.

I think I remember some kid asking him if he liked being in a free country. Oh boy! That would inly be surpassed a few years later when a kid who was a Vietnam refugee came to JHS. Oh boy I wince at how fetishized that kid was in class.

	🌫 ♥ 10:07pm brycepunk1: In '79 I lived 100 yards from the NY/NJ border. I was 7. The drinking age in NY was 18, but 21 in Jersey. The wild shit I got to see in Greenwood Lake as the youngsters drove north to legally drink and then try to drive home when drinking and driving was not such a big deal.. So many accidents, fights, drunk madness that made no sense to me but seemed perfectly normal.

She told me "Oh man, I've seen 'Star Wars' six times on dates!' and I said "hon, I've seen David Bowie in 'The Man Who Fell to Earth,' and that is not sci-fi!" So, that's all I know.

March 8, 2019: WFMU Marathon Show #1 w/ Matt Warwick!!!

2019 makes it 40 years since my family skidded onto the tarmac at JFK. 'Twas the culmination of a disorienting 15-month long emigration process from the U.S.S.R with stops in Austria and Italy along the way. Remembering this anniversary also made me think of 1979 in another way - as a year in which so many phenomenal debut albums came into existence (Unknown Pleasures! A Trip to Marineville! This Heat!). And this, freeformists, is how my 2019 WFMU premium was born!

With all material recorded especially for this compilation, Your Song, My Foot! Volume III: The 1979 Edition is brimming with cover versions and re-imaginings of tracks found on some of the killerest debut LP's of 1979! On cassette for extra wow and flutter, the premium comes with a download code for those in love with modern living!

The humdinger of a cover drawing is by John Godbert, the very same artist who drew the cover of The Fall's 1979 seminal debut LP - Live at the Witch Trials! John says, "It’s based on a wooden statue of a female figure that was found in a loch in the Scottish Highlands in the 19th century. She was a goddess who protected the loch & turned out to be 5,000 yrs old. This is very “Witch Trials” related, & MES would have liked it."

And at age 10 I went to see “Animal House” and barely understood like 40% what was happening. Damn… I was exposed to a lot by age 11.

The wild shit I got to see in Greenwood Lake as the youngsters drove north to legally drink and then try to drive home when drinking and driving was not such a big deal.. So many accidents, fights, drunk madness that made no sense to me but seemed perfectly normal.

I'm coming to get IKE!!! I'm going to take him away!!!" and I freaked out, and my mom was like, "You leave my son alone! You're a bad man!" I have no idea what that was all about.
