Oh yeah, last week I missed listening live because I was at a coworker's birthday party, and ended up so loaded I texted my boss asking for a raise for me and my coworker! And it worked, ha ha!

Nice, adam, lol

Never been much for the Dead. I saw them live once and that made me see how great it is live. But I love the first and last hours so much its got me learning enjoy the middle hour too. Thanks :)
Avatar 12:42am
Jeff Conklin:

There's always one person who feels the need to diss the Dead during my show. Thanks for being the guy this week
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am
TomDash:

Hey Jeff - good luck raising the $$$! Just heard a shoutout to my mom - Melissa from Silver Spring, MD - since I don’t have a full time show yet, I had her spread the wealth to the shows that turn me onto new jams...
Avatar 12:43am
Adamsworth:

He's getting into the Dead now though, I think, DocBlueDog?
Avatar 12:43am
DocBlueDog:

That comment is catagorically wrong JEFF. And really does not apply to my post. I said that I am learning to really enjoy the Dead listening to your show which is great. That was a completely unnecessary twist.
Avatar 12:44am
DocBlueDog:

Yes Adam. That is clearly what I said.
Avatar 12:44am

Ok ok sorry i misread it!

Oh man, I found out about Ned Collette from this show, and I actually turned a friend on to it who isn't usually into like folky music, he really liked it too!!
Avatar 2:14am
Jeff Conklin:

It's proggy!
Avatar 2:15am
Adamsworth:

The vocals on this song are pretty Floyd-y though I don't think he likes PF. He is into Robert Wyatt though.
Avatar 2:20am
DocBlueDog:

As an aside for anyone interested... I'm a philosophy geek. One of my heroes is Elaine Pagels who is famous for writing many books like The Gnostic Gospels. I am currently reading her new memoir which is called Why Religion? In the first chapter she talks about being friends with Jerry Garcia before he had a band. She tells about their friendship with Paul and how shocked she was when Jerry and Paul where in a car crash and Paul died. A little later she writes, "After leaving California, when I heard that Jerry Garcia's group of musicians had broken up and that he'd started another band that he called The Grateful Dead, I realized that the name must have resonated from the crash he had survived 5 years earlier." ... pretty cool. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22am
Jeffrey Davison:

The Ned Collette double LP is still available. You can get in the running for a pledge of $20 or more. You swag for lifers, you can also check in here and give part of your larger pledge to Avant Ghetto.

Floyd is my fave band. The psych and prog aspects of the show are my fave too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23am

Was Pagels friends, or at least acquaintances with PKD too? It's wild how small the freak scene was back then. Though I guess it still kind of is, ha!
Avatar 2:33am
DocBlueDog:

I love PKD. A long time fave. But I don't know if they knew each other. She has not mentioned him in the book. A quick google search shows no immediate connection. Of course they were both heavily into the gnostics. :)
Avatar 2:36am
Adamsworth:

yeah I read Pagels' Gnostic Gospels book after reading PKD...I couldn't remember if there was a direct connection or not...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40am
