Hi Don-O!
I can't believe I've never actually heard that Wild Man Fischer Rhino song before. I've heard of it, but have never heard it until now.

Avatar 6:04pm
Don-O:

I'm shocked that I was able to find the original store in the 80's. It was so far from the rest of Westwood.

KROQ used to play "Devotees." songs like "Are we not clowns? We are Bozo"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm
Granny Spicy Tuna:

Webmaster Henry: Take a valk down Fairfax!
  6:06pm
Martinibomb:

I hadn't heard that Devotees Album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm
Webhamster Henry:

@GrannySpicyTuna: indeed, the proper response!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm
Rich in Washington:

It's pretty nutty. Lots of people doing covers of Devo songs. WAY way ahead of the late 80s/early 90s trend of the band tribute album (which I contend started with that Neil Young tribute album The Bridge).
Avatar 6:09pm
Don-O:

So far, this is the only evidence I found of that documentary. I wonder if it got finish after the Kickstarter phase: www.jukeboxplaying.com...
Avatar 6:10pm

UT! Bad news, the film might no have been made.....damnit! www.kickstarter.com...
  6:11pm
Martinibomb:

@Rich this album has been in the back of my mind like off in the haze out of focus. I need to get the whole thing. The Mongoloid covers on youtube are amazing! holy shit cool as fuck
Avatar 6:11pm
Mr Fab:

one of my first post-college jobs was off Westwood Blvd. I used to walk to Rhino on my lunch breaks. Saw They Might Be Giants - just the 2 of them - play a free noon show there once.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm
Rich in Washington:

Derailroaded is a great doc on Larry.
  6:13pm
Martinibomb:

My old roommate moved down to LA and worked at that Westbood blvd location I think.. it was near the end. I think they closed in 2006?
Avatar 6:14pm
Don-O:

I've lost track of WHAT I saw live in that place. I saw Dr. D a couple of times.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm
Granny Spicy Tuna:

My friend's kid is in an all-kid DEVO-inspired band called REVO. They do covers and originals! They are quite a hit in these parts.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm
Rich in Washington:

Was Coyle and Sharpe on Rhino? Or just Mal?
  6:17pm
Martinibomb:

Someone posted Wild Man Fischer in the face hole page and he's been on my mind. So I'm primed for this episode. Facehole meta prgramming works wadyaknow.
Avatar 6:19pm
Don-O:

Just Mel. He made two LP's for them.
  6:19pm
Martinibomb:

@Granny checkin' out Revo on utube. I have a pal who works for Devo when they tour
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm
Rich in Washington:

Wow! I found 'em. They're criminally cheap! I didn't know he did solo albums.
  6:21pm
Martinibomb:

Is Revo a dad and his two kids? I can't find much googling em
Avatar 6:23pm
Don-O:

I never got his solo stuff as I didn't know Coyle and Sharpe at the time. After I got that CD collection Rollins, I started to kick myself for missing them.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm

Some friends and I keep threatening to form The Master Musicians of Kazookia, but we haven't done it yet. It might be ill advised in ultra PC Portlandia.
Avatar 6:42pm
Don-O:

Kazoos are considered not-enough-woke?!
Avatar 6:43pm
Linda Lee:

Hail, hail Kazookia! Land of the brave and free!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm
Rich in Washington:

We were actually going to dress up similar to the Moroccan group Master Musicians of Joujouka. I think some Ptowner's wouldn't get the joke and would be offended.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm
Rich in Washington:

or that we're mocking ethic music.
Avatar 6:44pm
Linda Lee:

damn it!
Avatar 6:45pm
Linda Lee:

it could work well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm
Rich in Washington:

I think we were mainly looking to mock ethnomusic snobs if anyone. The station was thinking of making kazoos to give away for swag, so that inspired the idea.
Avatar 6:46pm
Mr Fab:

Ah man, reminiscing about, apart from all the records I bought there, the free shows i used to see at Rhino: los Stratejackets, Man or Astroman, Babatunde Alatundje...The Del Rubio Triplets were a stand-out.
Avatar 6:46pm
Linda Lee:

thank you Don-O!
Avatar 6:48pm

The ONLY other live record store act I saw outside of Rhino was the Friends Of Dean Martinez at Amoeba.
Avatar 6:49pm

i like the idea.

Don-O:

Those 'Gap' guys knew how to reach those high notes!
Avatar 6:51pm
Linda Lee:

my lord, i thought for sure they were enhanced!
Avatar 6:51pm
Mr Fab:

Well, Rich there IS a band that gets WFMU play called Master Musicians of Bukkake so you've got a ways to go if you really want to be offensive.
Avatar 6:53pm
Linda Lee:

"Mr. Chicken"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm

Yeah. Sort of affiliated with one of the Sun City Girls' Alan Bishop, I believe.
