New Birth, haven't heard them in ages. FunKAY! I bought one of their records when i used to trek down to Watts to go funky/jazzy/soul record hunting in the pre-internet '90s.
Avatar 3:09pm
Otis Fodder:

I know. I had heard the name New Birth - but had never heard. Good thing on guests, now I have another band to dig into.

That's so cool Fab!

I need to bring chatting capabilities in the kitchen when cooking. As Rich mentioned earlier on your show Georgy, a laptop in the kitchen might be my best bet.

I was nearly Dirk because my mom really liked the actor Dirk Bogarde. Whew!

Hello Otis. This is my first time to this show.
Avatar 4:02pm
Otis Fodder:

Hi TDK60, welcome!
Avatar 4:02pm
Mr Fab:

i dunno Rich, 'Dirk' is a pretty badass name. But you'd have to always build your muscles, and practice nunchucks n stuff. So perhaps it's just as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
Rich in Washington:

TDK60! Welcome to the Jungle (Room)!
Avatar 4:03pm

Dirk is so badass. He had a camero and blasted Thin Lizzy. Cool dude, that Dirk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
Rich in Washington:

I probably would've embraced it, visa vi Dirk Nasty, but alas...
Avatar 4:04pm
Otis Fodder:

Almost Spinal Tap / Bad News level name there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm

I've really gotten to love music from this era. Anyone have that Songs We Taught The Bonzos comp? It's lovely.
Avatar 4:08pm
Otis Fodder:

I want that LP set. Love this music. Haunted Underwater Ballroom dancing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm

Dirk Nasty was one of the Rutles. I think the Eric Idle character, if memory serves.

been listening while trying to tidy up this place i call my home... great show Otis! Will hear the rest by archive. Bye everyone!
Avatar 4:14pm
Otis Fodder:

Hi Jan. Have a nice weekend buddy.
Avatar 4:18pm
TDK60:

I like that sound of your voices; is that a gated echo or compressed reverb?
Avatar 4:19pm
Otis Fodder:

Super light 'Doubler' effect on the Mackie Mixer. It's nice, huh? Started using it a couple of months ago, adds a bit of warmth. Thanks!
Avatar 4:19pm
Otis Fodder:

It's a Mackie ProFX12v2 mixer. Maybe too much techy info, but fun to share.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Rich in Washington:

I just finally learned how to make the effects loop work on my mic strip on my mixer and now use a tiny bit of reverb on my voice. I kind of like it. I think it's not too heavy to make comprehension a problem.
Avatar 4:25pm
TDK60:

Yeah, narrow it down to music from the 20th and 21st Century will ya?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
Rich in Washington:

@4:11: Oh. Thanks, Fab! I got them mixed up!
Avatar 4:31pm
TDK60:

I'm getting irritated with all the zombies wandering the streets with their stupid phones. Grumpy old fart I'm gettin' to be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm
Rich in Washington:

I've been experimenting with unplugging from devices while out in public - like just sitting there in waiting rooms, etc, and it's really weird. Kind of a strange mindfulness trip. Almost everyone's got their faces buried in a screen.
Avatar 4:33pm
Otis Fodder:

You are not alone. Plus in the city, it's not very smart to walk and look down, good to be aware of your surroundings always. Plus, it's just rude.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm
Rich in Washington:

I can see why some do, though, as you can feel somewhat strange just looking around taking reality in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm
Rich in Washington:

I DO love my bluetooth headphones though.
Avatar 4:35pm
Otis Fodder:

Old men sitting on a park bench part of the show, watching grass grow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm
Rich in Washington:

My wife and I used to think that couples in restaurants who're both on their phones are sad but now we think it's a toss up versus hearing obnoxious people talking loudly about inane things vs people not even talking to each other.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
Rich in Washington:

We want to invent this 'cone of silence' type app where two people can only hear each other via bluetooth earbuds or something, can filter out annoying loud people in restaurants.
Avatar 4:45pm
TDK60:

I have hearing damage from playing loud music, so in loud restaurants I often can't pick out the conversation at my table from other nearby tables, and it all turns into one big mono mix.
Avatar 4:51pm
Otis Fodder:

I would be in for the crowfunding for the 'cone of silence'.
Avatar 4:56pm
Mr Fab:

Ah, Monsieur Perrey, oui oui! When i saw JJ Perrey perform live, none other than our own Otis was DJing.
Avatar 4:57pm
Otis Fodder:

Wow, yea. 2006 Knitting Factory!
Avatar 4:58pm
Mr Fab:

Yikes, that long ago?
Avatar 5:00pm
Otis Fodder:

That long ago. I had just got hitched, moved to Canada and dropped down to the states to do the JJP shows in LA/SF. Last time I was in LA... too long, plan to get back in the next year or two.
Avatar 5:04pm
TDK60:

Stereolab is touring again? // I have tix for King Crimson later this fall; never seen them. It's their 50th year tour.
  5:06pm
Martinibomb:

Hey I made it back for the last hour. Woop. Hey TDK
Avatar 5:06pm
Mr Fab:

Have heard great things about the latest King Crimson tours.

The Damned / Jello Biafra's Incredibly Strange Dance Party is coming to town...for $80. Ouch.
Avatar 5:08pm
TDK60:

The King Crimson ticket was $102. Ouch! But I don't go to such concerts often, so..
Avatar 5:08pm
Otis Fodder:

Oh wow, I would love to see that show. I know ticket prices. Crimson is up there as well in cost, but sorta think I have to go as I have never seen them live and such a fan of the early 70s albums.
Avatar 5:10pm
TDK60:

My K.C. concert will be at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. I'm assuming the acoustics will be good; we'll be in the first balcony.
Avatar 5:11pm
TDK60:

Yeh, Obscured by Clouds or Meddle are fine.
Avatar 5:12pm
Otis Fodder:

I can do digital for post-dark side. While my 13 year old self is whispering, listen to The Final Cut... I just can't go there. Not yet. Maybe one day.
Avatar 5:17pm
TDK60:

I got Floyd's The Wall CD out of the library recently; hard to listen to, I used to like it but not so much anymore; a few cuts yes, but ROCK radio overplayed a lot of it.
  5:24pm
Martinibomb:

..wait this is kathy bates?
Avatar 5:27pm

Nice day here too, I have the window open. First day to do that - Montreal weather and all. I have a burger dinner exactly at 6pm, show ends, walking out the door.... will check out your shows pals this weekend while I attempt to re-organize the entire shelves here... by genre. First time. Photos to follow.

Cheers MB, it's a day to walk about all over. About to get my walk on shortly.

I've heard that Aleister's name is pronounced 'Crow,' like the bird. Can someone run a séance so we can ask him to settle this once and for all?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm

Avatar 5:50pm

Oh wow! Burroughs was into this stuff. Wonder if he had this record?
Avatar 5:55pm
