Hello, Everybody. It's all downhill from here!!!!
Avatar 6:06pm
Don-O:

I'd dedicate this to Donna Summer herself, but I fear she'll come back as a zombie just to punch me in the face!
Avatar 6:06pm
Mr Fab:

Steve Fisk was the Kurt Schwitters of '80s America
Avatar 6:07pm
spacebrother:

I haven't heard this Gordon Thomas in a long time, and I have it!

Polka music or Crap at this hour. What options!

I heard The Supremes come on the muzak when I was at the chiropractor and thought oh a song I like. But then it turned out to be a medley. Blech.

@BK, making the most of the beginning of the weekend, I'd say.

I’ll take crap at this hour. I took it all week, so..

Elle: you must work retail?

I just found out that an vinyl re-issue of Mickey Mouse Disco is being sold during Record Store Day.

Polka or disco crap is a tough choice this hour. I'm sticking with Don, will fire up Stashu's archive tomorrow.

I love Steve Fisk's commentary on the Seattle music bubble on the documentary Hype!.

Oh man! Had I known! I recently found a Close Encounters of the Third Kind disco record.
Avatar 6:17pm
Don-O:

Yup, there are some side that you can smell and desperate paychecks from the grove.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm
Rich in Washington:

It keeps creeping closer to my play pile, but gets usurped by newer, weirder incoming records.
Avatar 6:18pm

When I was little I asked for the Star Wars soundtrack. I got a cassette of Meco's Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk. I treasure it more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
Rich in Washington:

This is amazing, Don-O!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm
Rich in Washington:

That's a fun one, grantbob! I remember pestering our 6th grade music teacher to play the Meco Cantina theme 45 for us after he did it once. He probably regretted that for years.
Avatar 6:19pm
Don-O:

When you got to YouTube, type Frank Rosenthal disco episode 1979 and you'll see disco at its smelliest....in many ways
Avatar 6:23pm
grantbob:

@rich I think I wore that part of the tape out. I found a vinyl copy later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm
Rich in Washington:

I saved it to my watch later queue. It looks wonderful.
Avatar 6:24pm
Don-O:

I was tempted to bum a track from one of Mr. Fab's mix tapes, Disco Burnout.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm
Rich in Washington:

I love Star Wars ephemera, especially dodgy ripoff stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm
Rich in Washington:

This and Disco Duck are two tunes that my wife hits 'next' on our gigantic shared 70s playlist.
Avatar 6:27pm
Don-O:

I think Otis as a cover of Disco Duck in one of his 365 Project sides. It is EVEN worse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm
Rich in Washington:

I sure am missing Zappa. Wonder what he'd make of the crazy predicament we're in these days. And the Ahmet and Diva reanimating his dead body for filthy lucre just worsens my sadness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm
Rich in Washington:

Nice mixin', Don-O!
  6:29pm
Martinibomb:

yeah keeping the beat very nice
Avatar 6:29pm

Rich in Washington:

Oh man! I forgot all about this! We had this issue as a kid. I say WE, because our whole family was into Mad. Our Dad would get it first and then it would sort of get passed on down the line.
I once horrified some fundy relatives by saying we didn't have a bible in our house growing up, we had Mad Magazine.
  6:33pm
Martinibomb:

I keep thinking I want to get a subscription to MAD again.
Avatar 6:33pm
spacebrother:

Loving this Disco Hell.
Avatar 6:34pm
spacebrother:

I had that MECO album too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm
Rich in Washington:

I haven't looked at it in a while. Is it still funny? We briefly subscribed in the mid-2000s and it was pretty good. Still in the vein of the Mad I remember.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm
Rich in Washington:

I mean, like 2004 or so. Not 2050. Whew! Nearly blew my cover!
  6:35pm
Martinibomb:

I've heard it's kinda okay..I dunno I just kinda miss getting them in the mail
Avatar 6:36pm
Don-O:

Mad is still pretty good, though DC has been screwing around BTS with address changes and management changes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm
Rich in Washington:

Yeah. I heard bits of that - that DC's in turmoil - and was wondering if that would affect Mad.
Avatar 6:41pm
Don-O:

Early last year, they moved MAD from NYC to Burbak and hired a new staff. Last month they fired THAT staff and got a new one. Dig that corporate synergy(?)
  6:44pm
Martinibomb:

I'm still adjusting to the idea of marvel/dc being west coast it's so super alien to me still.
Avatar 6:45pm
spacebrother:

I have a friend that worked for National Lampoon in one of their late, internet only incarnations. Sounded like a very declawed version of their former glory days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm
Rich in Washington:

Oh yes. So sad to see National Lampoon reduced to a brand name, cheap crap teenage-focused humor.
Avatar 6:53pm
Don-O:

Herrrrre IT comes!!
Avatar 6:54pm
spacebrother:

I'm gonna go make a milkshake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm
Rich in Washington:

Has anyone seen that Doug Kinney/National Lampoon biopic? Any good?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm
Rich in Washington:

Oh man. I need to see this again. It's just painfully entertaining.
Avatar 6:56pm

I think I vomited a little bit in my mouth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm

Your milkshake came back up?
Avatar 6:57pm
