Heya, Rich! To my ears, "Stampeding Cattle" is one of the very best records to come out of Portland. After that one, Rancid Vat pretty much loses me (based on what I've heard, at least).

hi, Tony and folks. i don't want to be overly dramatic about it or anything, but this Renée Claude track just made my life better. very nice.
Avatar 1:14pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Chris! "Doux Amer" is a great track. Found that LP in the just-closed Iris Records, which used to be right near FMU. They used to have a whole room full of records from Quebec -- I'm not kidding!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm
chris:

did the Quebec room always want its own store? :D
Avatar 1:16pm
Tony Coulter:

It *had* its own store! That stuff was kept in an empty storefront next to Iris Records

Yes, "travelen" is how Morey & Co. spell "traveling."

This set is outstanding
Avatar 1:36pm
Tony Coulter:

Thanks, Holly! I'm letting my hippy side out....
  1:37pm
Dean:

Hmmm, did Traveling Wilburys perhaps follow Help Yourself's lead?
Avatar 1:38pm
HollyT:

The fact that a lot of this is from the late 70s/early 80s goes well with my (not original) theory that decades start and end two years in--i.e. the 80s didn't start until 82, etc.
Avatar 1:38pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Not sure -- mostly because, as far as I know, I've never heard the Traveling Wilburys!
  1:39pm

Not willingly, at least.

Judging from the synths, this Christian Folk record is at least late-'70s, and maybe '80s .... tho the clothes scream '70s.
  1:51pm
Dean:

Which means Christian Folk brazenly ripped off the Allman Bros., title-wise!
  1:51pm
Kudubundu:

And suddenly I was transported into the good old 70's. Ah I remember.....

here's some support for 1978 on the Christian Folk www.theancientstar-song.com... (also the back cover says they entered the studio in Feb 1978) HTH.
Avatar 2:03pm
Tony Coulter:

Thanks, Steveo! Didn't really read the liner notes too carefully. Most likely '78 or '79 then, I guess!
Avatar 2:05pm
Tony Coulter:

The tearsheet for this Care of the Cow reissue quotes me -- which is nice ... except, it misquotes me. Makes it sound like I'm not on good terms with adverbs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm

that song failed to convince me that dogs' ears are, in fact, stupid

@ Dean: Yeah, they're a favorite label of mine as well -- tho I really haven't been keeping up with their releases for a *long* time (um, for maybe 15-20 years!). I do have almost all of the earlier releases, tho.

The Badorou brought to mind Zed Records in Long Beach, CA, because it's on the Island label, and Zed was associated with Chris Blackwell: https://daily.redbullmusicacademy.com/2017/10/zed-records-the-birth-of-socal-punk. Helluva store, Zed.

Do you remember the small McCain chain of stores, one of which was in Long Beach, @Michael 98145? Zachariah McCain, etc.?

@Dean, don't recall them ... but i do remember Licorice Pizza near Belmont Shores ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm

{ geez, i loves this station }
  2:34pm
Dean:

Ah, yes, me, too! It was Hezekiah McCain, I believe, also in Belmont Shore. Zachariah was in Whittier, and there was a Jeremiah somewhere in the Southland. In high school, c.'76, we'd cover a huge swath of the LA area on record shopping trips, including Long Beach for Zed, Licorice Pizza, and McCain's.
