Ahhh, a sintir is a guembri!

Sadly, I'll miss the Master Musicians of Jajouka tomorrow, I'm going to see Sankai Juku again instead
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm
david w:

Hmm, Fred. That is what we call a conundrum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
david w:

hey ngh, I'll have to look that up.
Avatar 3:22pm
Schell:

The chorused synth and staccato buzzes are mine, the slowly glissandoing metallic sound is Nick's, but I don't remember this music, so this is great to hear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm
fred:

I've come to peace with it. Booking dance shows a year in advance is the only way to get affordable tickets. So I'll miss shows
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm
david w:

@Schell, who flew in the samples that come later?
Avatar 3:25pm
Schell:

If they're samples it'd be my Ensoniq EPS-16 PLUS (with polyphonic aftertouch, which I remember using for note-specific pitch bends). But Nick can certainly make sample/synth like sounds with his electric guitar with effects setup, so it's not always easy to tell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm
david w:

I wish I was so organized, Fred, cuz ticket prices here are insane.

The 90s - so near and yet so far.
Avatar 3:31pm
Schell:

Y'know I can't remember the sourcing of the snippits that Nick was jamming against there. Thinking that might have been a case where there was audio on a roll-in videotape associated with imagery. For those here that didn't know 77 Hz, we did live video and live music so there was improvised stuff going on through video monitors while this music was playing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm
steveo:

great & so cool when an artist drops in
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
fred:

That was great. The lack of video is probably not much of a loss to me, I'm a small guy so I probably wouldn't have seen much of it anyway
Avatar 3:35pm

lol @fred

May Day! May Day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm
david w:

Are you falling out of the sky or celebrating, Jeff?
Avatar 4:05pm
Schell:

Speaking of Arto Lindsay, was just listening to Heiner Goebbel's THe Man in the Elevator (1988) where Lindsay sings. (Goebbels was out here last week for Surrogate Cities with Seattle Symphony)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm
david w:

Interesting. I should revisit Goebbels. He always gave me an itch.
Avatar 4:10pm
Schell:

Goebbels is like Zappa with Teutonic pathos replacing California snark. He also pulls off the avant-rock+orchestra coupling better than most of us Americans. I'm hoping to write something up about the event for Sequenza 21 later this month.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:10pm
Jeff Golick:

Celebrating, I guess...while at work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
fred:

@Schell: Is that where you'll also write about the Partch instruments?
Avatar 4:15pm
Schell:

Not sure where the Partch article will go yet. I'm still working on it, I'll announce on Facebook and Twitter when it's published though. Very hard to write about someone like Partch that has already attracted so much commentary. In this case though there's the novelty of hearing the first version of The Bewitched for the first time ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
fred:

I'm really enjoying this YoshimiO and Ikue Mori set
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm

Always unpredictable, boldly goes ugly then mysterious then a groove then wanders with fascination for the moment...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
fred:

@David: Is the address on the Outpost Artists Resources site on the playlist where these Fire Over Heaven shows take place? I recommended that series to a guy who's from NYC, and he didn't know about the place
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm
steveo:

wait so this gorgeous piece is about to drone out? i'm on on the edge of my seat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm

Yes, Fred. Same place, same station, same concert site. It's not open to the public daily, but very welcoming when there is a show.
