OK. He did have a stroke.
He made it work - even as a unique way of phrasing - which I think must have been his manner w/ words anyhow.
He's was on early on Mondays when I got really into his program - an important buffer in the week.
I loved his apparently post-psychedelic idealism - along w/ his both topical & surrealist - & @ the same time understated! - views & ways of speaking. Very wry & yet welcoming, yes! It meant a lot to me.

Frank O’toole and Bob Brainen did an annual Brian Wilson trib show (I think around BW’s birthday in June) in the late 70s which really drew me to WFMU tho I’d been tuning in since 1968. Frank championed a young Smithereens, citing our 1983 Beauty & Sadness among his fave records of that year. He was very supportive when I became a WFMU staffer in ‘96. He was a good friend and a good guy and I’m gonna miss him.

Ah Frank O'Toole...didn't know the whole story but he was one of the WFMU DJs (along with Bob and of course Michael and a few others) that I always knew I was in for a good ride with. Same with Gary Stewart -- shared a name with my all time favorite brilliant country artist so his name on all those amazing rhino comps always jumped out at me. Come to think of it I won the wonderful 70s/80s/90s power pop comp on Michael's show by knowing who coined the term!

KHP- I love your hood.
Went to school many moons ago at CIA.
Loved it up there.
Lived in an old farm house with 4 other guys off of 9a, just down the street from the Stewart's and Ho Bowl.
What a great time of life

Ken Hyde Park...promise not to drop in univited nor plant any plants in your premise ... I used to look at the Buffalo (Mozzerella from Amenia???) and swim round about Germantown.... If the PCBs do not kill you they make you stronger!!! As X-Ray would say.. when there is no Taylor Ham, enjoy a lead paint sandwich...

FXO was the Master @Segues or "Mash-Ups" and for me, the greatest segue mix he ever did was on Jan. 3, 2003 when he mashed Brian Protheroe's "Enjoy It" with Primal Scream's "Morning Sun," then he went BACK to "Enjoy It" to tie the two songs together in a sandwich. It was an amazing combination of two fantastic songs so check it out here:
wfmu.org...
My favorite mash-up/segue of FXO. I mean, it's amazing how he went from one song to the other then back to the original without ever missing a beat and keeping the lyrics all in line with each other. Definitely you should check it out sometime, but not now 'cause Michael is doing an especially good show today.
