I love this Cozy Powell cut. The B Side used to be a fav to play out with years back when I used to DJ out "And Then There Was Skin"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Phoney M, .... Yes they ripped of the four perfromers even... They hardly got any money out of it. Frank Farian took it all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I was 50/50 on Skin vs Devil ;-)
Avatar 1:25pm

Both so good. That single is a gem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

The Midlands is basically the stripe across the centre of the UK that has major cities like Birmingham and Wolverhampton in it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Thanks for the Galaxy Trio MB, I'm not sure if I have that one already. I don't think so
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

It was also one of the major centres of the Industrial Revolution with TONS of factories and foundries ... and it's the clanging of the metals in the factories that led to the harder rock music at the end of the 60s that we now all know and love :-) That there heavy metal.

The cello's on Time Seller are very similar to some at ELO 1 Who was first, I've always wondered...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm
Jan Turkenburg:

yes, especially that ending!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Spencer Davis, I think - they were all pretty much coming form a "sound like The Beatles" standpoint, to be fair ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

A lot of reggae and sound systems etc coming out of the Midlands as well, following the Windrush era of immigration to the UK of West Indians, Jamaicans etc A lot of people went to the Midlands because there was as lot of work in the factories. The Campbell brothers from UB40 are from the Midlands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
Jan Turkenburg:

aha, of course. I once saw a documentary on Roy Wood, stating that Roy Wood was the first to use the cello as a rock-instrument. I doubt that. I think he further evolved an idea that was already there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I think The Beatles got more orchestras on pop songs in weird ways - and then subsequent bands had a go at playing the instruments themselves :-)
