Good question re Devo. For me they exist roughly on a plane with Subgenius and a more recent NYC art-world “Cult” Micah played a few months back (& probably Poppy, for that matter). They’re all ironic and self-aware meta-cults (not to be confused with flat-earth metal cults)— and they have all attracted at least few devotees so devoted, Ironically or otherwise, that they are indistinguishable from “real” cult members.
