i'm not unfamiliar with these concepts, so why does the piece strike me funny?
maybe because Laurie once claimed the Hamptons as a spiritual home. i keep picturing disembodied Laurie dodging friday night traffic.
Avatar 10:34am
Itzall ClearD'me Nåu:

Haha. I thought so... sometimes "mis-heard" lyrics/phrases can be better than the original. For years I heard "I'll be DAMNED" instead of "I'll be THERE" in the Temptations (or 4 Tops) song of the same title. Of course I was a child so I probably just WANTED it to be that.

Thanks Linda. FWIW, my mom passed away at Coney Island Hospital. It has a really unearned reputation as being “a dump” because… Who knows. Proximity to Coney Island? Anyway we lived nearby and we had great care there in all cases (my mom and dad as well). That unearned hatred was one of my first lessons of classism and prejudice even in healthcare and life/death situations.

Beware of anyone saying a hospital is “good” or “bad.” It’s never as clear cut as that.

@Rich: How about when they enter their late 30s/early 40s and suddenly have a revelation at how horrible they have been, grow a beard, might get divorced and then “do something” to make amends? They also jog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am

I'm writing a song called Douchebags with Acoustic Guitars. It's all really loud downstrokes and shouty, singy lyrics. It's based on every open mic poetry night I've ever gone to.

@Rich: My neighborhood is Brooklyn is pretty lunkheaded (non-hipster Brooklyn) but a nice small bar has an open mic night that I force myself to go to since I want to support things that are generally good—like this bar—but my God this last one as just people singing on guitar OMFG did I down those beers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am
Rich in Washington:

@JG: That's actually being 'woke'. Few of them make it that far, I suspect. That's an ugly look into a stark mirror that few can take, unless life's completely turned upsidedown and knocked them on their ass. Even then.
