i've walked thousands of miles in new york city but i've never tried to walk every block. there is a cuny professor named william b helmreich who did this and wrote a book on it-it's called "the new york nobody knows-walking 6000 miles in the city

When I was in college I didn't have a car, and walking everywhere made the town seem bigger because it took longer to get from one place to another.

The U.S. is not a very walkable country. Even NYC is not really great to walk in when all there its are glass towers with crappy ground floor retail.

My biggest NYC nostalgia is for a walkable city where it was really filled with cool things to do if you just explored a bit.
