  12:24pm Warwick joe:

Finally saw “Joe” the movie where that audio snippet comes from. What a movie!!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Krys O.:

Good ole Delores Fuller co-wrote this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Rich in Washington:

This song was co-written by Ed Wood Jr.'s girlfriend Dolores Fuller.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Hoboken Jack:

Do the Clam, everybody!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Rich in Washington:

I've never seen Joe, but have had that 'Joe Speaks' album, the one with a bunch of the dialogue from the film, for many years.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Krys O.:

Bob Moore on bass.
  12:26pm eric in sodak:

How does one do this "Clam"?
Avatar 12:26pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

It's every Amurican's duty to watch 'The King' :

It's no Follow That Dream, fer sure.
  12:28pm eric in sodak:

I thought this song was from Clambake.
  12:29pm Ajax:

Last night I was reading an old Nick Tosches essay about Elvis where he mentions "Do The Clam" as a lowpoint in the King's career - weird to hear the song the next day! RADIO KISMET
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Krys O.:

Of course that was Boots Randolph on sax.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Krys O.:

The 4:30 Movie on ABC used to have Elvis week. Great cheese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm northguineahills:

@Ajax: Even though Tosches' "Hellfire" is about Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis fits in prominently.
Avatar 12:33pm Joe B:

i guess even the greats like tosches are wrong sometimes!
  12:39pm Nacho:

I can't believe that Jon played in front of my apartment and I didn't knew until the day after. Bear in mind that I live in a not very touristic neighbour in Santiago, Chile....
  12:42pm eric in sodak:

Reese McHenry sings it like she means it.
  12:42pm SeanG:

great tunes Joe B!
Avatar 12:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

  12:49pm McGreivey:

Son Volt new album mini-review: most songs great; a couple songs meh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm doctorjazz:

Great, Joe, had a great time at it 2 years ago. I'll be wearing my FMU gear.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Hoboken Jack:

Circa AM, I saw Son Volt at Maxwell's and Wilco at Mercury Lounge; my money was on Farrar.
  12:54pm SeanG:

diggin' the new spiral stairs
Avatar 12:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Wull - I was actually surprised to learn Tweedy was the underdog in the Tupelo split...not that that means anything much...
Avatar 12:54pm Marshall Stacks:

First/only r'n'r song to mention Seymour Hersh?
  12:56pm SeanG:

i think so
  12:58pm Nacho:

@northguineahills hahaha, that's a great story.. but I made a mistake.. it wasn't Jon who played here.. he was in fact the producer of an album of a local band, but that band later invited another great musician to play with them right here, it was Jack Endino... I crossed some lines in my mind. .
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Hoboken Jack:

Firsst Fest sounds like such a great thing
Avatar 1:03pm KP in DC:

Hello Joe from the sort of South

hey Kp, hey mike! thanks everybody for tuning in/checking in!
Avatar 1:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Commies pressing some Buzzcock buttons
...not parsing that sentence...
  1:12pm Ajax:

Tosches was not an Elvis fan at all, so it's understandable that he would dis "Do The Clam". Also everything was different in 1984! Don't make me go back.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Hoboken Jack:

This Tommy/Commies is right up my proverbial alley
Avatar 1:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& Ex H like GenX...love it all mind you...
Avatar 1:15pm Joe B:

good point ajax! though some of those movies are tough to get through. well it's all one movie really
  1:20pm dano59:

Tosches did invent 2 singles by Jesse Garon for an "interview" in Unsung Heroes, they have been cited by lazy discographers
  1:26pm Zydeco Phil:

Where and when is first fest? Can’t find it online anywhere
  1:27pm Tim 07030:

The final Saturday night at Maxwell’s with Bambi Kino was one of the most fun evenings of my life. And definitely the only one where ‘Hippy Hippy Shake’ was played four (I think) times in a row. And hi there, Joe!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm coelacanth∅:

okay youngblood was pretty terrible but i'll always love the beatles' version of chains
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm coelacanth∅:

(then again it's not fair, considering Leon Russell's version. high bar)
  1:36pm Mark in Toronto:

I greatly enjoyed seeing Bambi Kino at the Record Fair about 4 years ago, they are really good.
Avatar 1:38pm Joe B:

the record fair was probably the shortest show they ever played!
Avatar 1:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...since The Beatles paid their dues in Hamburg, Germany playing all night every night...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Krys O.:

Was distracted by work. Nice to tune back to the Olympics!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Krys O.:

Cry for a Shadow! Ooooooh, so good.
Avatar 1:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

(The only 'Lennon-Harrison' credit...)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Krys O.:

Tosches wasn't the only one to invent songs. Martin Lewis made up 'rare Beatle demos': Colliding Circles, Pink Litmus Paper Shirt and two other titles that escape me at the moment. People swore they heard them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm coelacanth∅:

RR, trivia quiz: what's the only track credited to all the fab 4? (on an "original release")
Avatar 1:45pm Joe B:

flying

Deckchair and Left is Right (And Right is Wrong" are the other two Beatles hoax titles.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm coelacanth∅:

when i was little and they (the radio stations) did "beatles a to z" specials they used cry for a shadow to head into the mic breaks, so my lifetime association for that. and i wonder if commercial stations still do those; or, more likely, what year was the last time there was a beatles a-z special.
Avatar 1:49pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

The people's champ knows what he's talking about! Don't miss Bambi Kino!
Avatar 1:52pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Or Daddy Long Legs!
  1:53pm Tim from LH:

Going to try my hardest to make it to The Saint on Sunday!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:55pm tim from champaign:

Sounds like Daddy Long Legs needs to play this song in Asbury Park to help keep things gritty.
Avatar 1:55pm Joe B:

will be worth it tim!
  1:56pm Zydeco Phil:

Thx Joe B!
Avatar 1:57pm Joe B:

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Hoboken Jack:

I'm guessing that's not the Eric Davis from the Reds.

#1 Hit !
Avatar 🎸 2:55pm David Shortell:

Reading these listener comments about the Esau Smith chapter from Nick Tosches' "Unsung Heroes of Rock 'n' Roll" reminds me that I accepted the story as truth when I first read it.
I also thought "In the Hand of Dante" was autobiographical until I got to the point where Nick whips out a gun and kills his adversaries!
