Hi Joe! It's originally from a compilation called Don Simmons Plays The Organ Grinder Wurlitzer Pipe Organ but I don't know the year. Even Discogs doesn't have a year. I would put it at 1977 or so, based on the (then) popular songs on it.

I respect that song a lot more with the knowledge that it was pretty much one guy toiling in the studio to create the perfect pop rock song. I had a professor in college who was a Boston-area rock DJ in the '70s and '80s, and he said everyone was baffled when this massive arena rock band appeared out of nowhere.
