Aleister Crowley was raised in the Plymouth Brethren; one day he came home to an empty house and just assumed that everyone else had been raptured. Garrison Keillor was raised in the (I gather) related 'Blessèd Brethren' and had exactly the same experience about seventy years later.

I liked a lot of his stuff anyway, more in earlier years. And yes, I think it's one reason why he's so full of himself: he needed to sustain that level of confidence to fight the constant 'Now you're going to Hell.' messages that his early training gave him the moment he started to have an interesting thought, and why I fully expected him to be f-cked-up about sex.

I fully hope that more female (and non-binary) artist and writer douche-nozzles will have the opportunities their male complements have had─of course, some of them will find new and different ways to be douche-nozzles, and that'll be at least a change.
