"continuum" is a direct descendant of some work by Somei Satoh. i wish Satoh would get more attention.

@YETI BOB - you might be aware, but Josh Abrams started out in the Roots. I love when musicians get weirder/more out with time.

Donna, play something off of Spacemen 3's Recurring. Guaranteed hangover cure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
coelacanth∅:

once upon a time i was assistant manager at a store and if i came in feeling like shit the manager would be very sweet to me (which must've been a challenge for her) but if she found out it was self-induced (hangover) she'd turn mean as hell and have me busier than usual for the rest of the day.

i play that Stevie song on the jukebox when certain people are present in the bar
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm
Franco Twinkie:

Coel, do you glare at them while it is playing, just to make sure they get your drift?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm
Michael 98145:

{ these summer fill-ins have been quite fun }
  4:55pm
brainiac:

Donna, you are the most fearless exotic name pronouncer I have ever heard behind a mic. Good on ya, mate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm
coelacanth∅:

Franco, no! but the one that i usually play it for is always watching when i go up to the jukebox because he generally can't stand good music and thinks the shallow shitty gangsta rap he plays is far superior. i know he's listening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm
fred:

I like this Barbara Proksch track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm
Michael 98145:

crappy rap does seem to be some folks' constant soundtrack, doesn't it ??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm
Franco Twinkie:

Yeah, If you don't want to get in a fist fight, you have to think of other ways to check these motherfuckers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm
coelacanth∅:

Michael, i find it bizarre! a million lines of lyrics that don't say much of anything, strung together by elementary school rhyming; and these people chant every lyric like it's some profound mantra. song after song. they must commit a lot of time to being poseurs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm
tim from champaign:

I'd go to the piano bar if it sounded like this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm
coelacanth∅:

Franco i'm friendly with this person. it's a tense friendly though! some of his minions wont be friendly to me.
he actually got fired from a job as a waiter that he was, from what i could tell, exceptionally good at, because of his badass, wiseass attitude.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm
Michael 98145:

@coel, maybe they find saying "shit" over and over to be somehow cathartic ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm
coelacanth∅:

haha, maybe.
i play some "old school" rap sometimes when i'm there and at least the one guy likes that too. but he usually chooses the recycled, i'm-so-badass poseur crap when he feeds the jukebox.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm
common:

Donna. All. Happy Thursday. This is nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm
coelacanth∅:

(when i say oldschool i mean like late 80s-late 90s)

hey common!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm
Franco Twinkie:

That's the problem with bars. Some people treat them like it's their living room.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm
coelacanth∅:

yes, the living room that mommy will clean up...but that's another thing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
coelacanth∅:

...to be fair, some folks might think it's me being selfish to play what i play. they're not aware that i take into account who's in the bar (especially behind the bar), and the general vibe when i choose music on the jukebox. i also rarely put tons of money in at once, even though doing that gives me extra selections, because i'm giving others a chance to get in there too.
Avatar 5:33pm
Carmichael:

@coel, you pay the money, you play the song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm
Rich in Washington:

This is incredible!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm
coelacanth∅:

Carm i know. people have said that to me! but it's not like i'm playing anything i don't want to hear...i just may not play 6 punk songs if the vibe leans toward Curtis Mayfield; or 6 Curtis Mayfiel songs if the vibe leans toward the grateful dead.
i can work within the realm of the vibe, usually...unless i decidedly want to counter the vibe!
Avatar 5:39pm
Carmichael:

At my local boozer, I try to give off the "f@ck off" look, with pretty good success. I actually said it once to a guy, too, so I got that going for me.
Avatar 5:45pm
colbua:

this Chalcha music is interesting stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm
coelacanth∅:

haha yeah.
...i've said more than once "you're really annoying why are you talking to me?" and one guy, this tall college student came up to me as i stood at the jukebox and at first was praising my selections, which may have been classic bluesrock or r&b, and then said how 'bout some zeppelin... i said nope. he said oh come on, stairway to heaven? and i said if i were going to play led zeppelin that's about the last song i'd play and he accused me of saying that just to be contrary and cool because it's not possible for someone to dislike that song.
i told him he's on very thin ice and he doesn't have much time to get away from me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
coelacanth∅:

christ that's a long post. sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
