Hey Thibault, how's it going?

Hi All. Let the Friday free-form freak-fest begin!

Mr Fab:

I have a sensational white family. Or so I like to think.
Avatar 11:13am
Mr Fab:

A disco calypso version of "Love is BLue." I could not ask for more.

Thibault:

It's going fine, just published a paper on the Stanford Prison Experiment after a year-long tedious process: psycnet.apa.org... How are you?
Avatar 11:22am
Mr Fab:

That's really interesting, Thibault. So is the Stanford Prison Experiment still a legit experiment, just mis-reported? Or is the whole thing suspect?
Avatar 11:24am
Thibault:

The whole thing should be put to trash.
Avatar 11:25am
Thibault:

The paper is online here: psyarxiv.com...

Mr Fab:

That "Big Snow from the North" is fascinating. Mar Vista is near Venice Beach, so I can see that being a Beat hangout. Would love to have a copy of it, but when i do a search, the only thing that comes up is Jason's old playlists, heh heh.

@Martinibomb: I hope that's just a coincidental find! Please say yes.
Avatar 12:58pm
Linda Lee:

update please, mb!
Avatar 1:01pm
Mr Fab:

hi Linda, I think Jason's music bed is Ethiopian, from the Ethiopique series, but don't know what it's called. (I seem to recall Jim Jarmusch using it in one of his films)
Avatar 1:02pm
Linda Lee:

really! that sly boots!
Avatar 1:07pm
Linda Lee:

he seems to rely on super-evocative music when there's not a whole lot happening on film.
Avatar 1:08pm
Jason Elbogen:

Yes, my bed music is Ethiopiques 4... I've been meaning to change it pretty much every time I get here, but I'm always late!
Avatar 1:08pm
Linda Lee:

thank you Jason! lovely!
Avatar 1:09pm
Mr Fab:

speaking of Ethiopian music, this is killer
Avatar 1:10pm

Well, I've already spent over 9 hours listening today, for the most part waiting for a delivery that came very late (I was starting to think I was going to do the same on Monday). Well worth it, as it was my swag package
Avatar 1:16pm
Mr Fab:

was William Onyeabar involved in this record? Sure sounds like him, that Afro-disco synth sound.
Avatar 1:17pm
Mr Fab:

Oh man, how much did you spend Jason?
Avatar 1:17pm
Linda Lee:

well! thanks so much for letting us hear what we might never hear otherwise.
Avatar 1:19pm
Linda Lee:

glad you got your swag, fred!
Avatar 1:21pm
Linda Lee:

just think of what any of these musicians got for the gig. or any gig.
Avatar 1:26pm
Mr Fab:

Yeah, the ethno-musicologists show up, record, go home. I'm very grateful for these valuable recordings, but in many cases the participants didn't even know they were being recorded, much less getting any $$ from it.
Avatar 1:28pm
Linda Lee:

this is treating talented adults like chlldren & it's pretty disgraceful.
Avatar 1:29pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@fred I'm happy to be contributing 47 hours of listening material as part of your swag package.
Avatar 1:30pm
Linda Lee:

speaking of children.. this record by bobby is a new kind of incredible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm
fred:

And, for a long time at least, they wouldn't even ask the names of the musicians, the assumption being that there was no creativity and that they were capturing a frozen slice of the past.
I've heard from people in the field that this attitude is no longer as prevalent
Avatar 1:31pm
Linda Lee:

oh! Kay's organ!! superb.
Avatar 1:32pm
Linda Lee:

@fred ~ my gosh, i hope not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm

@Kenzo: Thanks for that, Unopened Packages will provide the soundtrack to many late night walks home
Avatar 1:43pm
Mr Fab:

you could write "private press"?
Avatar 1:47pm
Linda Lee:

we should *always* concern them, Jason!
Kay's obviously played the organ all her life. that's a pre-war photo!
Avatar 1:47pm
Linda Lee:

i'm guessing she's not with us any more.
Avatar 1:54pm
Jason Elbogen:

I should always close with this song...
Avatar 1:55pm
