The World Music Institute (WMI) season officially launches with New York's Slavic Soul Party and Copenhagen's Mames Babegenush channeling East European village band traditions Tuesday August 27th at the Mercury Lounge. But there's also a great pre-season concert Sunday afternoon the 25th: Saraswathi Ranganathan performs on the South Indian veena, precursor of the sitar, at the glorious Hudson Valley sculpture park, Storm King Art Center.

Saraswathi and mridangam (percussion) accompanist Ganapathi Ranganathan join us along with WMI's new Artistic Director Brian Keigher, who introduces music from around the world that WMI will bring to venues around NYC this fall.

@hip@6:06, I know it's a little busy on the left-hand side but it shouldn't be THAT hard to find! Look for "This Week's Playlist" above the calendar and below the image. I only see 2 things listed so far -- presumably it was Juco Chaves?

Ken From Hyde Park:

According to Storm King's calendar, they have a monarch butterfly event at 1PM and then the concert. Admission to the site is $18, which I assumes includes the concert at 2PM. They offer a bus shuttle service from the Beacon station on the Metro North rail line.

Rob W:

Yes, admission includes the concert, thanks Ken!

Hi # chresti, no, it wasn't the intro but the 1st or 2nd song that sounded today. Enjoying the program before I fall asleep (after midnight here).
