For hound dog there was never a bad song only varying degrees of great. There are also some good brewer phillips albums out there

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
coelacanth∅:

i'll guess back in the day was during the "revival", not during his first recording period!
and...a bit envious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
Michael 98145:

@coel, probably late 1960s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
coelacanth∅:

damn, if i could start my life over, knowing what i know now, how would i convince my parents to let me go see Bukka White?!
(and Skip James and John Hurt and Hound Dog -etc...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
coelacanth∅:

(...the ones still alive, doing the college circuit)
  8:37pm
Wilson in South Orange:

I was sentenced to a summer semester at college and I asked one of my dad's friends who was heavy into blues to lend me some CDs. He gave me two big boxes of tapes and CDs and that's all I did besides get A's so I could get the hell out of there. Sonny Boy Williamson... Lightnin'... Bukka (Bukka reminded me)... everything
  8:38pm
Peter from Dover NJ:

First time I've been able to tune in to your program from the start. Nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm
coelacanth∅:

Wilson that doesn't sound too painful!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
Michael 98145:

Oddly enough, our local Friends Center hosted some great blues shows. Gotta love those Quakers.
  8:42pm
Wilson in South Orange:

the universe opened up and shat seventy blues albums on me... it was great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm
coelacanth∅:

i would've been scrambling to create my own copies of every one of them! (that i didn't have already)
Avatar 8:46pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Good bit about Patton & his AmerIndian heritage in the movie 'Rumble'.
  8:48pm
Wilson in South Orange:

I was 19 so I made mixtapes? Tragic flaw... but it was 1995. The only thing I recorded cover to cover was Hooker Endless Boogie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm
coelacanth∅:

Michael those friends meeting house shows were the ones in the late 60s? that's awesome!
my sister's a quaker and her kids went to quaker schools. only show i ever heard about was an african (don't know the region) drummer who i'd never heard of.

2019 & still being schooled on Blues behind Rawk I know like my own name...
  8:49pm
JakeGould:

I went to some blues club on the Upper West Side in the late 1980s that was… Okay… But I mainly remember the overpriced fruity drinks they served.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm
coelacanth∅:

1995 i was still rebelling against all digital media, so i can relate! i bought probably around 600 cassettes in the 90s, because records were no longer available.
  8:51pm
JakeGould:

I bought LPs in the 1990s because they were still cheaper than CDs… Then I went all CD… Then I went all digital.
Avatar 8:53pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

They got Slavery & we got the Greatest Thing There Ever Was. It's too much...
Thx MFA !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm
Matt Fiveash:

I did some things in the 1990s too but I can't remember any of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
Matt Fiveash:

Anyway thanks all and maybe we'll try it again next week.
  8:54pm
JakeGould:

If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
coelacanth∅:

shanachie had already phased out vinyl for the most part by 1995, and that's where i bought most of my music at the time.
(distributor of matchbox, yazoo, etc....they did still have many of the blues comps on vinyl, fortunately)

Jinx:

enjoyed the songs, Matt. thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm
