Yes, loved the Friend Computer yesterday MB! I have been thinking of doing something like that for years, but you beat me to it! :-)
Avatar 2:05pm
Linda Lee:

aren't we all though :-D
Avatar 2:09pm
Mr Fab:

Hey all! Yes,Linda i remember how exiting this time was for me as a youngster. All the synths, bold colors, clean design. After all the messy looks, loose music and earth colors of the 70s. Maybe the last time things seemed truly futuristic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm
Jan Turkenburg:

yep. but tomorrow my future self will talk with my past self. Possible only on SJR!
Avatar 2:09pm
Ursula1000:

I was promised a jet pack!
Avatar 2:11pm
Linda Lee:

Mr Fab! yes, wasn't that odd. i think we did look toward the future in the 70s too. i wore a plastic apple on a chain! :-D
  2:11pm
Friend Computer:

@Jan Thank you, Citizen!
Avatar 2:12pm
Linda Lee:

just think about all that electronica :-)
Avatar 2:13pm
Linda Lee:

i first shaved my head at the end of the 70s, for what that's worth :-D
Avatar 2:13pm
Linda Lee:

still waiting for the jet packs, aren't we. now they go out without us!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm
Jan Turkenburg:

You're welcome FC! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm
Jan Turkenburg:

another two years and i even have to shave my head anymore... :-) :-)
Avatar 2:15pm
Linda Lee:

lucky you! :-)
Avatar 2:16pm
Ursula1000:

gonna pop out for a sec---updating the track listing---no jumping ahead now! see you at the break...
Avatar 2:17pm
Mr Fab:

i can totally see shaving your head at the end of the '70s. Many did, I'm sure. Out with the long hippie hair and beards, in with The Future.
  2:17pm
Martinibomb:

Catch ya on the flip side!
Avatar 2:18pm
Ursula1000:

Steve Strange will look after you in the mean time....
Avatar 2:19pm
Linda Lee:

yess! and don't forget what was happening in London, stylistically. i saw my first london-style punk in 77. glam to punk. so the hair went! :-)
Avatar 2:19pm
Mr Fab:

this is exactly the song i think of when i hear the phrase "New Romantic."
Avatar 2:21pm
Linda Lee:

i was always sort of alienated by the hippie thing ~ which was still patriarchal (& then conformist!), so i was happy to move on. always allergic to 'what everyone's doing' :-D
Avatar 2:23pm
Linda Lee:

hippie was more a west coast thing anyway, really. if anything the east coast was yippie. a bit more hard edged i think..
Avatar 2:24pm
Linda Lee:

different energy.
Avatar 2:30pm
Mr Fab:

Yes, i think a lot of West Coast surfers gradually transformed into hippies. Hence the whole mellow, nature-loving attitude. Surfers were not political, but they absorbed some beatnik politics. but yes, def not like the Yippies.
  2:34pm
Martinibomb:

I grew up between hippies and loggers 70s/80s I know that vibe
Avatar 2:35pm
Linda Lee:

right! :-)
Avatar 2:35pm
Mailman Tom:

All the East Coast hippies moved to Burlington, VT
Avatar 2:36pm
Linda Lee:

oh dear! :-D
Avatar 2:37pm

Avatar 2:39pm
Linda Lee:

it's fun hearing this music with new ears! oh my listen to this rap thing! :-D
Avatar 2:41pm
Mr Fab:

Yeh, haven't heard some of this stuff in ages. I bought that YMO album for exactly that song "Cue."
Avatar 2:42pm
Ursula1000:

haha I was living in Miami Beach of all places around this time--raiding the imports section of the few record shops actually carrying any of this--oh the hunt!
Avatar 2:46pm
Linda Lee:

brava! miami beach! beautiful!
:-)
i was in nyc & there's a deeply bittersweet flavor here for me, also. the 80s were dark, while we moved so definitively into the future. we lost so many.
Avatar 2:47pm
Linda Lee:

so the music has that dark shadow to it.
Avatar 2:48pm
Linda Lee:

.. which makes what we love about it, so great.
Avatar 2:48pm
Ursula1000:

oh definitely
Avatar 2:49pm
Linda Lee:

we danced like demons!
or robots :-D
Avatar 2:49pm
Ursula1000:

and lots and lots of delicious fretless bass!
Avatar 2:50pm
Linda Lee:

oh my gosh sure :-D
  2:50pm
Martinibomb:

this song is effing insane!
Avatar 2:51pm
Linda Lee:

Avatar 2:51pm
Ursula1000:

speaking of fretless bass...here come my ALL time faves!!!!
Avatar 2:51pm
Linda Lee:

oh wow :-D
  2:52pm
Martinibomb:

one of the greatest bass lines ever here
Avatar 2:52pm
Mr Fab:

we were moving into this futuristic society, even as we sang along with the Pistols' "No future..for you..."
Avatar 2:53pm
Linda Lee:

sure!
the question was always, who's future will it be?
Avatar 2:55pm
Linda Lee:

the punks were letting us know the battle lines were forming & we'd best figure out where we were.
  2:55pm
Martinibomb:

It's not for me (It's a beautiful world)
For you (It's a beautiful world)
Avatar 2:56pm
Ursula1000:

this is the rare German version of the Mr X track from their Vienna album---some Coldwave action going on here!
Avatar 2:57pm
Linda Lee:

a pretty wild time really..
Avatar 2:57pm
Mr Fab:
