Hello, David, Ruth, all those OAR folk, and all.

Now strapping on the gravity boots, in aid of listening upside down. A whim come true.

Hi David & Ruth!

Hi David! Intriguing title to the show.

Burns HAD to give Wynton a cameo. Close call!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm

Whoa, the whole gang! steveo (step carefully), james (the leaves are falling already), Schell (the wise sage), Sem (floating again?), and djazz (does anybody remember the electric chair?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm
david w:

Ah, heinseng. You know my itch!

I had an electrically assisted Standing Desk - it might as well have been an electric chair.

heh remixing Laurie Anderson.

Hello Ridgewoods!

The stream has had some glitches today so if anybody notices oddness, let me know. I'm recording in parallel as always, so the archive will be spotless.

Wouldn't be surprised if the electric chair makes a comeback..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm
steveo:

yes please do step carefully, i still have a sneaker tread on my neck from your last program
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
david w:

steveo, I would never purposely hurt you, just a rough massage!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
Ike:

As I said before: Normally I am not into Ken Burns, but the first ep. of Country Music, "The Rub", should be commended for talking about how much influence African-Americans had on country (despite Kris Kristofferson embarrassing himself by calling it "white soul music" or something like that, a common misconception). They sprinkle in a lot of good Charley Pride interview bits too. And on another note, they also mention the infamous con artist who started a radio station just to push his goat gonad male-enhancement surgery scams which is apropos of not much, but very amusing to me: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
david w:

Yes, Ike, Understood. And it is pretty strong on contributions by women. Of all people, Dolly Parton brought me to tears!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
steveo:

a massage of the ears, indubitably; digging the branch; i'm a sucker for brass
  3:37pm
heinseng:

Yeah, and who'da known Patsy Cline was fierce? Not from her lyrics.
Avatar 3:37pm
geezerette:

Blues prayer appreciated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm
Ike:

Yeah I think I know which scene you mean. That was incredible. Dolly Parton is a kingpin of culture. I love her bluegrass albums but I wonder if she's done any albums of just old-time a cappella and if not, I hope she gets on that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
david w:

The Nashville vs. Austin drama is also amazing to learn.
Avatar 3:47pm
geezerette:

Willie wins.
Never knew he was responsible for Austin City limits. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm
david w:

Willie and Waylon and Emmylou all shine (or shock) and the ubiquitous talking head this time (Marty Stuart) does not lead us wrong (as others in Burns' pieces have).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
Stanley:

Hear, here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm

Johnny Cash: the wannabe who won em in Folsom.
Also interesting how not only Gram Parsons and Townes, but also Minnie Pearl were posh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm
david w:

I love it when you agree with me, Stanley. I also love it when you scold me. Greetings!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm
david w:

Oh, I forgot Townes. Key!
Avatar 4:13pm
geezerette:

Marty Stuart was a revelation. Was unaware of him and inclined to dismiss him merely because of his visual presentation; something I don't often do. Shame on me; phenomenal musician ! A lot of child prodigies in the series.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
david w:

Marty Stuart has earned my respect (perspective!) and his haircut.
Avatar 4:16pm

Ha! Exactly! :D

i was curious about the relative sizes of the clarinets, and I found this photo: en.wikipedia.org...
