sounds like an episode of SVU! or Criminal Minds!
truthfully -- there have been cases of "older" teenagers and adults pretending to be much younger, and getting away with it for quite some time
also, cases of young children being diagnosed as sociopaths (the thought that some people really ARE born "evil" -- with no hope that they could ever be "cured" -- is truly frightening)
and, i have also heard of children from former Soviet countries who have had real issues -- not sure if they were horribly abused before, or lost their birth parents very early, or whatever -- but well meaning adoptive parents have real problems with them (and of course, the adoption agency never discloses any of this)
even so -- WHY the hell would the parent(s) just abandon someone like this???
surely someone with Barnett's experience/knowledge would have had access to resources/agencies etc. that could have helped???
