Iona Kwartet  Tune (Adriaan Valk)   Favoriting Rhodoniet kwartet #1    The Iona Saxophone Quartet was founded in 1991 and consisted of Vincent Bergervoet (soprano saxophone), Annelies Hendriks (alto saxophone), Esther van den Berg (tenor saxophone) and Johan Kloosterhuis (baritone saxophone). Their goal was a fusion of spirituality and musical-technical control. Iona used the music and ideas of Adriaan Valk for this. The mythology and minerals of the island of Iona and the close relationship with the quartet Iona inspired him to create characteristic compositions. One example is the ‘Mineralcycle’ of the saxophone quartet, which he described as ‘an attempt to capture the individualities of these ‘slow-living’ stones in sounds.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Rich, hi Otis, hi Georgy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm
Rich in Washington:

Zappa performing this song on Saturday Night Live was sort of a lifechanging experience for me as a kid. The actual slime pouring over the TV monitors. Just the kind of thing pre-teen me needed to see, apparently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm
Rich in Washington:

Hello DJ GeorgyGirl!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Every pre-teen should see Frank Zappa :-)
Avatar 2:05pm
Otis Fodder:

Great Zappa track... where or when it was I can't remember, but recently talking here at Sheen's about how we need more Zappa in the Jungle Room.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm
Rich in Washington:

Yes. I remember that conversation. Maybe it's starting to happen. The Zappaning.

Zappa and the The Tubes - magnificent :-)

I can't believe The Tubes' Prairie Prince plays on the new Negativland album.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm

Fabulous show start, Jan! :-)
Avatar 2:08pm
Otis Fodder:

It's funny how my intros are. For Zappa it was Valley Girl and The Tubes it was She's a Beauty, what was that, like 82 for both (god, I was 13 in '82) ... and then work my way in, deeper, and discover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm
Rich in Washington:

This whole album is fantastic. It's the first Tubes album I ever heard.
Avatar 2:09pm
Mr Fab:

Hi Jan, and fellow frame followers. Jason, the end of your show is so funny when you interrupt yourself and you're like: whoa, I got to get out of here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm

Bobby Brown for me ... and then later Joe's Garage :-)

In my room in the late 70s with the transistor under the covers :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm
Rich in Washington:

I remember some late-night DJ playing like a side or more of this album when I was a kid. I think I liked it because it had the same Zappa-type smartass vibe to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

We're both playing Todd Rundgren ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm
Rich in Washington:

I would buy all these solo Zappa albums out of the cut-out or dollar bin and would be disappointed because they were not quite like The Mothers of Invention. I didn't really know the difference at that point. I wished I'd kept them all now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Mine's on Monday. lol.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm

I love the background to this track - the spirituality of stones :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm

He's quite a character, Adriaan Valk and you're never sure if he's serious or not.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm

HI MB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

If I go quiet momentarily, it's because I put the heating on for a quick blast for the first time this season, and the radiator is right behind my back. So I'm a little bit toasty and relaxed listening to all this lovely, lush music :-)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm

There was an excellent comic book shop off the Champs Elysees in the 80s called B.D. :-) Happy memories :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm

We've just fired our furnace up for the first time last week and it always has this peculiar burning toast smell when it hasn't been run for a while. Not heavy, just kind of noticeable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - same here. Very distinct kind of dusty smell but warm. I kind of like it :-)
