You're getting the album version as well - maximum meow! ;-)

Although the current temperature is well into the 90s, so I'm actually not driving "topless." I need my AC. Tho the sounds are keeping me cool too, daddy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Enjoy the breezes - even if they come from the AC! :-)

Hi DJ GeorgyGirl!
Hi everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm

It's absolutely bucketing with rain here and very cold so I'm basking in the music :-)

I'm getting flashbacks to 70s childhood/teen years :-)

My wife and I really love the Rhino Sounds of the 70s: Have A Nice Day box set. It just transports us back to our childhood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is definitely Happy place music for me :-)
I found all these clips of Whispering Bob Harris on The Old Grey Whistle Test apologising for the guest who hadn't turned up that week. I thought it was hilarious to include a bunch in the show... ;-)

I really like Robert Palmer's 70s and early 80s LPs.

By the en of the show, none of the guests will have turned up ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm

He was spectacular during this period!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh ... always time for Steely Dan <3
Avatar 5:35pm
Mr Fab:

My brother, friends and I call this stuff "big sister music". For some reason it turned out we all had these fairly older hippie big sisters who used to always play this stuff. We all agree that Carole King's "tapestry" is the ur-text of big sister nusic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

God, yes!
All us Gen-X'ers stuck between generations, too.
I seemed to spend a lot of time dreaming of all the clothes I'd buy and stuff I'd get when I was old enough to be the hippie generation. Except of course it wasn't there any more when I got there!
Didn't stop me, mind you ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Was it just my speakers that stuttered then?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm
Rich in Washington:

I didn't notice anything and I'm listening pretty closely (and loudly).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Excellent - just me then :-) Phew!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm
Rich in Washington:

Kind of fixated on the production of this song. Have been appreciating Rundgren more and more over the years and the level of production on his songs. I used to not 'get' Rundgren and now I think I do.
Avatar 5:41pm
geezerette:

This music really sets the dial back to innocence. Good to know it's still in there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I was obsessed with 70s AOR Rundgren ... and didn't realise/get into all The Nazz stuff until much later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I LOVE LONELY BOY!!!!! :-D
Avatar 5:43pm
geezerette:

I love Andrew Gold. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

One of the songs that's guaranteed to make me completely freak out :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm
Rich in Washington:

That aforementioned Rhino set became the core of this monstrous 70s playlist that my wife and I would have on in the background often. I augmented it with lots of other obscurish 70s radio staples.
That Rhino set's weird, though. I think it's supposed to be derived from some criteria based on US Billboard charts, but many many huge stars are noticeable by their absence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - it sounds fantastic. :-)
  5:47pm
CC:

Hi GG and all..!..all nice tunes today...thanks for sharing!!!!
Avatar 5:48pm
Mr Fab:

Rich, it's difficult to put a really comprehensive compilation together because many of the big names priced themselves out of it. Hence, no Beatles in many 60s comps, no Sinatra and any Lounge /Vegas comps, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi CC! :-)
Avatar 5:50pm
geezerette:

This is all bringing back a vanished L.A. to me. So very different.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm
Rich in Washington:

yeah. Not Elton John, no Manilow, almost none of those big stars which were radio staples at the time. This is some way is a somewhat endearing aspect of those comps, but it's just weird, especially if someone wants to - as I was trying - to replicate a 70s radio station feel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I feel like I should be doing an FM voice - announcing the time and the weather and the news and all that ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

The longer the Bob Harris announcements go on, the more it makes me laugh ;-)
  5:55pm
melinda:

Some of these songs I don’t remember specifically but their sound still makes me feel like I should be at the mall buying lip gloss and trinkets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm
Rich in Washington:

That IS hilarious!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

And wearing those stripey knee high socks with the individual toes :-)

"Zeppelin, 'Stairway,' here on the all-new Sheena FM. Georgy Girl with ya...Got tickets to see 'Dark Side of the Moon' at Lasarium to the first caller who can send me some Quaaludes. The number here is..."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm

I remember this Toto quite specifically.
Avatar 5:57pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Can we get Slushies?
Avatar 5:58pm
geezerette:

Mr. Fab, heh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

There's only one thing you can say during this song and that's either "Cannonball it!" or "Gunga Gunga Lunga". I love "Caddyshack" :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

GOPHERS!!!
Avatar 6:02pm
Mr Fab:

i was surprised to find out that Toto had it's roots in the neighborhood i currently live in. I just don't think of actual humans making that kind of stuff, I imagined those songs rolling off some record co assembly line.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm

I say WHAT?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Avatar 6:07pm

I don't know if this is convertible music as much as it is custom van music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Can anyone guess what the next song is?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

It does have that feel, doesn't it? A Van and a bong and this. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'll give you a clue ... it's cocktail time ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@geezerette - I love that description!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm

It's just Bob Harris ... alone ... a couple of lights ... no engineers ... and NO guests ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I was thisclose to playing "Afternoon Delight" but it still gives me secondhand embarrassment after all these years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm
Rich in Washington:

I can't figure out why either of them aren't mad that they each responded to a personal ad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Also - the Pina Colada song ... so neither of them are going to address the fact that they were both intent on cheating??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

There you go!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm
Rich in Washington:

What about Muskrat Love?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yeah . that's a bit secondhand embarrassment too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm

We were thinking the same thing. I guess it was the 'swinging' 70s.
Avatar 6:15pm

UGH, Rich! HA!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Also how did he not know that she liked Pina Coladas???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

There are so many unanswered questions ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
Rich in Washington:

I remember seeing ads for a crab louse ointment in old Playboy magazines, so yeah, the 70s were a bit dingy, weren't they?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ewwwwwwwwwwwww ... lol
Avatar 6:19pm

Meaningless sex was sweeping the culture back then. Didn't sound like fun. Deflecting it seemed like a full time job.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

This reminds me - I haven't watched "Tootsie" in ages
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Do you sometimes look at people in their 70s and wonder how much cocaine and orgies they did back in the day? ;-)
Avatar 6:24pm

i don't believe i've ever seen it!
