Favoriting October 12, 2019: Brooklyn Raga Massive's Neel Murgai & David Ellenbogen

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

The collective of musicians known as Brooklyn Raga Massive (BRM) is the heart of what the New York Times calls “the Raga Renaissance".

BRM's defining event is their annual 24-hour / 70-plus performer Ragas Live marathon concert at Pioneer Works, the innovative arts center in Red Hook, Brooklyn. This year's marathon starts Saturday evening October 19th and ends the following night.

Musicians and BRM Artistic Directors Neel Murgai (pictured with his ensemble featuring several core BRM members, above) and David Ellenbogen (pictured below) join us to talk Raga, Brooklyn-style.

I was going to tune the shortwave to spend the afternoon listening to arabic music and then Indian music and maybe some greek music tonight. I am glad I tuned in. This is even better than the shortwaves. And the great thing about WFMU is I discovered a way to listen to the FM signal from Neptune Beach Florida.
