Hello, all. Can anyone ID today's mystery LP-under-the-cassettes? Just bought a sealed copy for 50 cents. Not even sure yet if it's a keeper, as I haven't really listened to it yet.

Since no one is guessing what today's mystery LP is, I'll let the cat out of the bag, of the bat out of the hat, or whatever: It's Child Support's "Come to Amerika": www.discogs.com...

Forgot to mention that both sides of this tape end *very* abruptly

Glad you like it! And yes, '87 is in fact the most likely date. '87 or maybe '86.

right. going by the tones & what pop music sounded like at the time..

it's inspiring!

Christophe Petchanatz (Mr. LOSP) is definitely a phenomenon. He has so many releases (under different names), and they're all really great.

that last track ~ "Assiette" ~ reminded me a lot of the soundtrack to Liquid Sky .. which was a little bit earlier.
Avatar 1:43pm
Tony Coulter:

Haven't seen that great movie in years. Have a VHS of it in the basement, tho....
Avatar 1:45pm
Linda Lee:

they recently re-released it, restored, on blu-ray! i hear it's not quite so muddy looking.. truer colors. sharper.
Avatar 1:45pm
Linda Lee:

for me the muddy look was part of the appeal. but it could look great now.
Avatar 1:48pm
Linda Lee:

love "exode". just love this tape.
Avatar 1:49pm
Tony Coulter:

Back in the '90s there was a show on FMU that used the track "Me and My Rhythm Box" (from the Liquid Sky soundtrack) as its in-theme.
Avatar 1:49pm

ahaha! not all of it, surely :-D

Rev. Turnip Druid:

I know it's been ages since the last redesign of the FMU homepage, but it no longer says clearly what show is on w/the alternate streams & I keep missing Coulterville, alas...
Avatar 1:58pm
Linda Lee:

can't tell you how much i'm looking forward to this artists' cover of an old velvets favorite.
'17 erections' reminds me of the old bukowski collection 'erections, ejaculations' &c..
Avatar 🥁 1:59pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Haven't heard M.Schmickler in ages. Will plunder th'archives later..
Avatar 🥁 1:59pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

nevermind! No archive!
Avatar 1:59pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Rev. Turnip Druid: Yes, we alternate-streamers are not fans of the current homepage design. Definitely makes us harder to find (grumble, grumble).
Avatar 1:59pm
Linda Lee:

it is a bit of a dig to find out what's happening. if we don't have the stream schedules memorized we miss bunches!
Avatar 1:59pm
Linda Lee:

it's a little bit shitty!

In the mid-80s, in high school, my friend and I were OBSESSED with Liquid Sky
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:01pm
Yvang:

I am still using the good old homepage freeform.wfmu.org
Avatar 2:01pm
Linda Lee:

good to hear that! it could have been much worse.
Avatar 2:02pm
HollyRT:

In retrospect, I *cannot* believe how lucky we were to have Night Flight on the USA network. They showed Liquid Sky, Rude Boy, Smithereens, Breaking Glass, and a whole bunch more weird punk-era films constantly. Also reruns of New Wave Theatre, Warhol stuff, etc
Avatar 2:03pm
Linda Lee:

nice! that sounds brilliant.
i don't remember where i first saw Liquid Sky. cable somewhere. it wasn't long after release & it was shown repeatedly!
Avatar 2:08pm
Linda Lee:

i was already in my 20s, in downtown nyc, so i saw reflections of the people i knew .. or was. :-)
Avatar 2:13pm
Linda Lee:

the main point of the film, for me, being the brilliant gender thing Ann Carlisle pulled off. that was totally great & unseen 'til then in film, for the most part.

[scrolling up] Yvang yes i use the old homepage too. not still but again...i did give the new one a shot for a few months when it came along a few years ago. still try it occasionally and it still mostly sucks (as well as being visually unsettling/ugly)
i'm Thankful the old one is still an option.
Avatar 2:45pm
Tony Coulter:

Really jumped the gun on listing "Ne Cherche Pas," which just started a minute ago. Solly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm
coelacanth∅))):

that album's goal is pretty lofty
...or is there no time limit on those erections
Avatar 2:49pm
Tony Coulter:

Nope -- it's 17 erections over 60 minutes.
Avatar 2:50pm
Tony Coulter:

Oddly, though, there are only 16 tracks -- so he's cheating.
