When New Wave was happening. I'd hear kids calling people "wavos" I thought they were saying "Huevos" I was a confused pre-teen.

Martinibomb:

I guess? I only remember hearing the term around the time people were pegging their jeans
  2:21pm
Martinibomb:

Maybe it was a pre-term for Goth tho? I feel like it was the same group

I had a friend who moved to LA in 75 or 76 to be in the new wave scene

Mr Fab:

This show quite literally could be a typical KROQ playlist from back in the day.

Speaking of mr. Bingenheimer, I just saw Rodney MC the Blondie /Elvis Costello show at the Greek Theater recently. Debbie Harry talks about what a turning point LA was for Blondiein her book.

I think year I flipped on the TV and the local news had Thomas Dolby on and he was out of breath explaining that he just woke up put the tv on and saw the reporter saying he was going to be on and he'd totally forgotten and had to run for it Hah

I think you are right, I only learned of some songs via MTV
Avatar 2:59pm
Ursula1000:

funny Thomas Dolby story. I was djing some tech industry party and I heard he was gonna be there. I totally flipped. I played it cool and then when I finally spotted him I played Magic's Wand by Whodini which he wrote/produced. he came over and said---haven't heard that in ages! he had braces on. totally confused me!
