Oh man, I love Epperson’s work. First encountered it via the Insight Timer app (where you can hear a lot of it for free). Please please PLEASE don’t be telling me he’s actually a convicted sex offender or any of the usual things that land musicians on MMC.

@dale, if you’ve made it this far not-hating, you’re not likely to start hating. I would not call this piece (which I haven’t heard before) the best introduction to what he does, and this is only one aspect of his aesthetic. I have never gotten a cult version be from him AT ALL. (How’s that for an ad campaign?)

This Epperson Incident —which *may* be the first time I have ever heard an artist whose work I know fairly well and enjoy unironically on IT—really demonstrates how Context is Everything. Micah understandably and accurately presented Epp as inspired by Hemi-Synch (& he *has* released a few of his many recordings on their label)—but I had completely forgotten that about him by now. He could just as easily get airplay on any number of other WMFU shows, but introduced to their listeners as influenced by folks like David Toop and the more experimental side of Eno’s career, which is equally accurate.

I had a college friend who later got into ECK. My cult-hackles went off, but he didn’t really strike me as having gone off the deep end—and I am totally down(in theory) with conceiving of god as Light and Sound. Having heard so many of the group’s god-awful recordings on MMC, though, I gotta say I have few questions about exactly what kind of Sound they have in mind. Maybe the Light part is more fun.
