Sinead, you made it, woohoo!

Curious Tom:

I think my favourite release of 2019 was It Won't Be Like This All The Time by The Twilight Sad. One of their best albums from the last few releases I reckon.

So many faves... Stargazer Lilies was one...

Been so much I've heard this year that I love. I find myself kind of tongue-tied though when someone asks me what bands/artists I'm into because I keep hearing so much stuff on FMU I've never heard before that I really like.

I'm leaning towards RIDE's This Is Not a Safe Place as my favorite of the year...

Good morning Sinead and everybody!

Had been busy debugging.
Thus I'm a bit late.

Almost spring like weathe here in Germany.
Christmas time became warm in recent years.
Climate chane I guess.

dmz:

great show this year was: the wild reeds at hardly strictly bluegrass 2019 in golden gate park, sf!

Can you play "Chain" from the Hunter album by occasion?
No one plays "Chain" and it is my personal fave.

Most memorable gig this year ...
---------------------------------------
... came from an Irish band:
post-rockers And So I Watch You From Afar from Belfast.

I had seen them 10 years ago and it had been incredible!

At the merch I bought their debut album and in the monthsand years to follow I enjoyed it so much, that i knew it by heart.

With the years more albums came, the line up changed and their shows weren't that wild anymore.

I had a little pity, I never would get the stuff from the debut as a live performance anymore.

And this year?
They did a debut album aniversary tour!
They played the debut from the beginning to the end!
I wasn't prepared!
I was totally amazed!

And it happened to be the last show of the tour.
And they stated it was intentional this lst show to happen in Cologne -with the emphasis this not to be a compliment- since the liked the Cologne show 10 years ago most!
How is this?

Gig would be Oh Sees at the Warsaw in Brooklyn. blew me out of the water

Curious Tom:

I think having a cheeky little break in Munich and seeing Radical Face has been the best gig of the year. Ben is such a nice guy and hung around after the show to chat with fans. It was great.
Biffy Clyro in the Bataclan in Paris was a fine gig too. Foo Fighters were sadly the worst. Pretty much a painting by numbers gig though the support band Slaves were fantastic so it wasn't a waste.

I saw the Oh Sees at 285 Kent in Brooklyn a few years back, with the Blind Shake opening. Great show, great space, though sadly another casualty of the real-estate market.

There has been some cool stuff this year, like a really good gig by Iclandic jazz quartet ADHD. Went back to see them in Mechelen after enjoying their show in Cologne very much a year earlier.
But to stay in transmission fashion, Madrugada did an anniversary tour, with their album Industrial silence. They played in the Roma in Antwerp, (wich is a gorgeous old cinema from the 1920's.) That one really stuck, even after 20 years it sounded fresh and sharp as ever. Such a great album and they were absolutely killing it!

Another amazing gig was performes by a young Egypt group:
they're called Lekhfa, kind of a supergrop from Cairo.
(Three solo-artists united plus rhythm section.)

Brilliant fusion of Funk/Hip-Hop-beats with traditional influences. But this is a bad description.

Get their album!
It's brilliant!
lekhfa.bandcamp.com...

If any show announced, do not miss them!

The whole young Cologne Egypt community seemed to have been present at the show..

Saw Oh Sees last years summer.
Sure a highlight.

It was cooking!
Musically and literlly!
I was lucky to reserve a "boy seat" at the side door with fresh air and good stage sight.

No doubt you can by any of their albums without disappointment!
Just too many albums!
How about recommendations?

What do you think about the drummer having a tatoo of the band logo on his chest? Isn't that dedication?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08am

Thank you Mariano!

Didn't know about the drummer's tattoo, that is dedication!
