Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from September 30, 2003 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

The Ex  Live WFMU Broadcast recorded the Knitting Factory 9/9/03.   Favoriting Many Many thanks to The Ex for inviting us to do this. And thanks to Paolo Suarez, Jason Tubbs, Stephen Schwartz at the Knit, Sarah Tolbert at Touch and Go for all the amazing assistance. www.theex.nl  Since 1979, Holland's greatest musical export has been setting the bar higher and higher. Starting off as political punks active in their country's squat movement, the band has grown into an incredible example of living its message via passionate and prolific output both musical and print-related. Through the years, their world travels have allowed them to grow and absorb many genres of music into their sound, from European folk, to improvisational jazz and African pop; most recently they've been frequent visitors to Ethiopia and have championed largely-unheard and wonderful music from all over the African continent. Live, the current lineup of Terrie, Andy, G.W. Sok, RozeMarie, and Katherina are a veritable tornado of pounding rhythms and dissonant twin guitars, tearing up the stage more each time they return to New York. They've kindly invited Brian to broadcast their 75 minute Knitting Factory show from September 9th.
