hey Keilidh and future others

BH:

Point: "If there's no year 0, why does the decade end in 2019?"
Counterpoint: "Shut up Steve"

Here comes the night.

Hi Keilidh. Do you wash pills you drop on the floor before you put them in your mouth?
Avatar 12:10am

wait what - this is funky but yet rock - yeah
Avatar 12:10am
Keilidh:

HEY EVERYONE! I started on WFMU at 15 year old in 2008. Let's rock out to the best live guests i've had on so far!!
Avatar 12:11am
Keilidh:

@franco - 5mg rule
  12:13am
JakeGould:

@FrancoAmericanTwinkie: You one of those “dropped to on the floor” snobs, huh?
  12:16am
choggie:

why the output level soooooo looooow?
  12:16am
J:

Records skipping
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am
Franco Twinkie:

Well no, Jake, but this particular pill was rolling around on the filthy kitchen floor before I could locate it. I didn't wash it with soap, but I did run it under the faucet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17am
coelacanth∅:

depends on the floor, whether i blow it off, wipe it with my shirt, or rinse it under water.
  12:17am
choggie:

crank it up out here DJ mon

hey Rory
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am
Rory:

@coel - Hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25am
Franco Twinkie:

Keillidh, Did you have raccoon eyes as a dweeby 15 year old, or was this part of the transformative process that evolved with staying up late?
Avatar 12:26am
Keilidh:

some of these recordings are not the best qual! I'll try my best to keep the volume up
Avatar 12:26am
Keilidh:

@franco - the raccoon eyes were my destiny as a young emo... but yeah the lack of sleep
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am
Franco Twinkie:

Mystery solved. Thank you.
  12:29am
Rory:

I remember Beastin back in the day when I first started listening in ‘08-09.
Avatar 12:30am
Keilidh:

Rory omg! Thank you for tolerating me for so long. I really do appreciate it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32am
Rory:

Tolerating? You’ve provided some best music I’ve heard and I have never pledged to your show once.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am
coelacanth∅:

i'm curious what was written on the right side of your face
Avatar 12:34am
Keilidh:

@coel - "BLU," as in BLUMIN. As in DANIEL BLUMIN. I was on the marathon volunteer squad for him one year.
  12:35am
JakeGould:

I’ve worked Blumin’s marathon shifts and never got my face written on. But hey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, everybody. One of my favorite Beastin' memories was the wasabi challenge on the marathon show with Gaylord.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am
coelacanth∅:

haha! i thought it'd be a number (then "min.")
Avatar 12:37am
Keilidh:

@ken - HA. That was a great marathon... but def not my favorite memory, as I passed out in cold sweats for 4 hours afterward in the green room.
  12:37am
BH:

timekeeping methods were different back then
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am
coelacanth∅:

BH they had yet to iron out the kinks in 2009
  12:42am
BH:

there was a lot of uncertainty in the years between the Watch and the Apple Watch.
  12:42am
JakeGould:

I had an Apple Watch for like 7 months and now I am back to a Swatch. Too stressful to have multiple devices one has to charge all the time.
Avatar 12:44am
Keilidh:

is the volume good or is it too high now (distorted?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am
coelacanth∅:

sounds good here. if it's distorted it's not bad
  12:49am
marry:

2020 will not be normal visual activity...if your near someone within 20 ft...you may be charged with assault...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49am
Rory:

One thing I’ve noticed especially later in the decade is people thought it was weird or felt sorry for me that I didn’t a have a Facebook or Twitter account? I always thought they were the weird ones? Now I don’t hone what’s normal or what’s not?
  12:51am
BH:

Zager and Evans cut the "In the year 20-20, you may be charted with assault if you're within 20 feet of somebody" lyrics out of "In the Year 2525"
Avatar 12:55am
Fox:

The first year I ever volunteered, I remember seeing you. It struck me because you were like, the only other female around. I thought that you were perhaps my age. I'm bad at age. I looked bizarre with dark purple hair and short short bangs and bleached eyebrows. (no eyepatch)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am
Michael 98145:

Haven't been on this ride before now. Onward!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11am
Franco Twinkie:

I guess it's an aspect of this week every year when people get reflective about the past, but this year we're talking about a decade! Mooning over the past is such a subjective and profoundly personal thing. Cold weather, darkness and cookies might have something to do with it as well.
  1:15am
BH:

although in my part of the country, December hasn't been consistently cold (which could be another topic).. so it's more of a "sinus oddities because of temperature swings" time of the year around here
  1:17am
JakeGould:

The oughts (2000 to 2009) was utterly miserable for me. The 2010 had it’s ups and downs, but felt better for me. I look forward to 2020.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am
Franco Twinkie:

We have that too, BH, the sinus thing, but this year December IS cold, by our standard(California).
Avatar 1:21am
Fox:

This is AMAAAZING.
  1:22am
BH:

The global economy didn't melt during this decade (knock on wood), so the 10s has that going for it (and a bunch of the 2008 crash happened in-between the time I decided to graduate from college and when I graduated in December)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25am
Franco Twinkie:

BH, was that weird, looking into the chasm of financial uncertainty as you walked away with your diploma?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31am
Franco Twinkie:

I guess it was the 00's when The Beastie Boys had their practice space across the street from Chrestis studio in Atwater Village. Those were good times for everybody.
  1:32am
BH:

that probably sounds slightly more bleak than it was.. that winter was probably more polarizing between the things to be concerned/pessimistic about and the things to be optimistic about.
  1:33am
JakeGould:

@BH: Winter makes things seem worse. Especially this cusp of the post-solstice season. I’ve even taken to making small mental lists when I’m down to prop myself up again it can get so bleak.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36am
Franco Twinkie:

I know that cold weather makes my body ache, and that influences my general outlook on everything else.
  1:36am
JakeGould:

Lack of daylight and warmth is the killer for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37am
Franco Twinkie:

Jake, two words: Bean broth.
  1:38am
JakeGould:

@Franco: Bean broth? You think I’m baby Yoda or something?
Avatar 1:38am
Keilidh:

I thrive in winter!! I was born in the dead of it!! Although winter definitely brings on some retrospective bad feels for me... it also brings my best hair days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am
Franco Twinkie:

Just sayin'
  1:39am
JakeGould:

OK boomer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am
Franco Twinkie:

Zoomers like yourself don't eat beans?
  1:49am
BH:

I think the Christmas gathering I was at went into a bit of "Best of the 2010s" turf when the topic of viewing the August 2017 eclipse was covered.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49am
Franco Twinkie:

Good night Kellidh, you sassy youngster!
Avatar 1:51am
Keilidh:

Night Franco! Thanks for tunin in!!
  1:57am
greatb:

heh, I remember listening to that Clay/Julie/Keilidh segment. That's one for the books!
  2:09am
BH:

positive thing about the 2010s: it seems more difficult to get computer viruses these days (unless you're working for a city that's running a wildly out of date operating system).
Avatar 2:13am
Keilidh:

@bh - that is def a positive!! plus it's much easier to remember-that-thing-what-was-it-called
  2:19am
JakeGould:

Assword?
  2:21am
BH:

I guess the internet is slightly less fun without risking downloading trojan horses off of file sharing sites.

Extra good thing: sites making it harder to reset somebody's password because you knew the answer to one of their security questions (two-factor/multi-factor is also a good thing)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25am
coelacanth∅:

the college station where i live laughably calls itself "the edge".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27am
coelacanth∅:

i remember that wasabi challenge. i felt bad for you; but maybe you just needed the sleep.
  2:29am
BH:

The station that used to be owned by my college is called "The Bridge". (They sold to the PBS station, so it's actually a good station now)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30am
coelacanth∅:

haha this is hilarious!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33am
coelacanth∅:

"the bridge"...i think the owner of a café i go to plays a station called that on sirius.
it's not great
  2:37am
BH:

Extra points for a generic station name if Sirius is using the name for a different kind of station.

Radio stations that call themselves "The New (insert name here)" for (seemingly) years are also something i've encountered a few times on TuneIn.

"It's the new 102.5" (which has the same format as the old 102.5)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43am
coelacanth∅:

i guess it's just a catchphrase to remember it by.
i don't now, when i was "growing up" i remembered the radio stations' names by the call letters with no problem and i think everyone else did too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51am
Handy Haversack:

Holy shit, this song is good.
Avatar 2:56am
