At home and playing around on the PC. So i can make a few comments. Its hard to work and have these WMFU pages up. Does not look like I'm generating engineer change orders ! LOL

Hey, I’m under 64! For now, at least. Can I listen?
  1:24pm
Martinibomb:

Moving?
  1:24pm
Domenic:

So this is what the kiddies were listening to 100 years ago. Kids those days!
  1:24pm
Martinibomb:

@Dom hahah yup!
Avatar 1:25pm

Loading up the moving truck now, going slow though, so many fragile 78s need to wrap up one by one.
  1:25pm
Martinibomb:

78s are very heavy Jan! Don't hurt your self
Avatar 1:26pm
Mr Fab:

Restoring the sound of 78s can be a tricky thing - too much, and the sound is muffled. Better to have a little hiss sometimes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
Jan Turkenburg:

They also take up a lot of space as well. So I need a bigger home for them...
Avatar 1:26pm
Otis Fodder:

2020, we can just throw 10,000 78rpms on a hard drive into the glove box and zoom to a new timezone. ;)
Avatar 1:27pm
Otis Fodder:

I cringe at some of the cleaning ('mastering') during the late 90s/early 00s of vintage tunes. Worse than listening to 96k mp3s at times.
  1:28pm
Domenic:

The Charleston and Shimmy are scandalous and sexually suggestive dances and must stop!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm

It's a health department issue! Call the authorities I say! Sweaty bodies colliding. Heavens!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm
Jan Turkenburg:

96 k mp3 isn't that bad, if you convert to mono. I used to do that with my first podcasts in 2005. I 've been listening today, for use in the next FDL
Avatar 1:31pm
Otis Fodder:

96k sure is a far cry better than the 32k we used to have with realaudio for a short while.
Avatar 1:32pm
Otis Fodder:

Have been pushing everything to FLAC here over the past decade. Hard drive space is so cheap these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm
Jan Turkenburg:

The underwater radio shows you mean? ;-) :-)
  1:32pm
Domenic:

That's right. the great war was over. the Spanish Influenza had run its course, Syphilis was being contained and civilization just went "girls gone wild".
Avatar 1:33pm
Otis Fodder:

Underwater radio shows, yes! Ha.
  1:33pm
Martinibomb:

I have a fondness for low bit rate I know that sounds insane but I like that ring modulator fx sound u get with that
  1:33pm
Martinibomb:

that's the underwater thing u all are talking about it's essentially ring modulation
Avatar 1:34pm
Otis Fodder:

I like the sound a lot too, just not when archiving.
  1:34pm
Martinibomb:

^ I suppose not Lol
Avatar 1:36pm
Otis Fodder:

Back when I couldn't afford a new 500MB hard drive in 1998, the entire bran hey cd was converted to ADPCM WAV 8-bit and after upped to 44.1/16... if you listen you can hear it, sounds like it's playing from inside Aquaman's butt.
Avatar 1:38pm
Otis Fodder:

Looking back, 128-160 was the total norm. 192 was great. 320 was rockstar material.
Avatar 1:39pm
Otis Fodder:

128 works great for the Sheena stream. ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
Jan Turkenburg:

LOL
Avatar 1:39pm
Otis Fodder:

128 in a club... tried that once... ouch!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I can imagine. sounds are very vulnerable on larger speakers...

Just started listening, great stuff...but the playlist listings are broken, right? Out here, I see teeny tiny type, in a narrow column. The web master must be summoned...

Hi Jan, I'm 62, is it okay if I listen quietly?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi LOT No, that's deliberate, its a picture. so you must be able to enlarge it to readable size
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Chresti, as long as you don't make sounds it's okay!
  1:43pm
Domenic:

I'm 61. This is not exactly a place to meet young chicks!

Let me get this straight...we listen to music from the '20s online, from anywhere in the world, on a multitude of devices, high bandwidth...and we listen with 8-bit ears? I are confused...

That's true Chresti, I'm slowly trying to get used to it at 55...

Thank you Jan, about to board the metro into the future. Thank you for the 20s in the 20s!
Avatar 1:59pm
Mr Fab:

So far, these sounds sound great, not having the overly processed/EQ-ed sound you get with some 78 revivalists. And yes, everything being squished down to 128 fo the Sheena stream sounds surprisingly great. How DO the WFMU engineers do it?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:00pm
