Favoriting Cannibal Stew: Playlist from January 9, 2020 Favoriting

ARB swings to the other Belgian Popcorn. Very passionate vocalists, naive orchestrations, irreverent pranks.

@ARB I'm trying to find newer music that fits sheena for my show and found this band Lola Lola doing stuff in your vein. Have you heard them? Any new acts doing popcorn/R&B stuff you'd recommend. PS.. check this song it's pretty cool youtu.be...

3 PM or 4 and I would be more likely to listen live. Before 3 PM Mondays are meetings and hectic updates. But that is just me.

Ah, you've reached the eternal Jack Benny age. Looking at your list of celebrities who died at 39, I am having to reevaluate what Jack Benny was trying to to us. Do you think he was being political?

@arb have not heard TT putting them in my listening pool. Thanks If you hear of anything in the future...

Does anyone remember when War Of The Gargantuas was in regular circulation on channel 5?
Avatar 1:38pm

I love that movie, especially the torch singer scene
Avatar 1:39pm
ARB:

hi JtotheK, thank you!
Avatar 1:39pm
Mr Fab:

Ha, was thinking the same thing when I saw the title Gargantua. At least a couple versions of that song "The Words Get Stuck in my Throat" in the Sheena stream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
JtotheK:

Re: Monday/Thursday - I'll admit Popcorn Thursday is a lot of fun but Mon/Thurs I'll listen either way - be it as it airs or archive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
Rich in Washington:

I played multiple versions of 'Words Get Stuck..' on my last show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm
Rich in Washington:

Franco: the main thing that always stuck with me of that movie was that seemingly endless song and then the evil Gargantua's reaction to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Franco Twinkie:

Until I saw that movie on television, I thought the term Gargantua was something my mom made up when she was talking about creepy people.

The local stations used to play alot of movies on a fairly regular basis. I think I saw the original "War of the Worlds" like, 7 times? They'd show it at least once a year.
Avatar 1:54pm
ARB:

Thanks all, it was Sunday, I went to the Holyland Exhibition here in Los Angeles, it's supposed to be the collection of the real man who inspired Indiana Jones but it's also kind of a creepy bible study run by a mother daughter who have spent their entire lives living in the museum and make you drink grape kool aid
Avatar 1:55pm
Otis Fodder:

Alina - Your show before or after Record Roulette Club on Mondays would be a crazy 2 hour block.

Blair - Maybe you could go 2 hours on Thursday. Nudge nudge. ;)

My dad liked Al Hirt. One time Al was in a parade and someone threw a brick and clocked him on the head, and for some reason my dad thought it was funny! Maybe he had changed his mind about Al's talent.

Great last set. Excellent show. Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm
Rich in Washington:

Crap movies were pretty abundant, as local TV stations owned their copies outright, usually bought along with 'classic' films, and had time to fill, which was why we used to have latenight movies, afternoon movies, etc., along with your local weatherman donning a cape and greasepaint and howling like a werewolf between (local) commercial breaks.
Then local networks started running infomercials because they generated more revenue and cable people like Ted Turner started snapping up even the shittiest movies.
It really SHOULD be in the bill of rights that you can turn on the tv at 2am and see a monster movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm
